....guysssssssss
It's been like three years. I'm like, graduating college soon. BUT IVE BEEN GOING THROUGH MY FILES AND THINGS AND YOU KNOW WHAT I FOUND??? THE EPILOGUE I PROMISED 💀 (i had lost it)
So it came full circle, even tho the delivery has been late
Anyways, here it is, in its unedited, poorly-written glory. I figured you guys deserved the raw fanservice. Also I might start writing again here and there. It'll be pretty inconsistent, but if anyone still likes me as an author you'd be getting a really big improvement!!! (Aka i took an english 400-level course so i got bullied into slightly better storytelling)
Note: this is from y/n's pov, and its still written in author-kun's fatui logic (ykyk before we knew anything)
I am absolutely sick and tired of this contradictory thing known as "Summer". School called it a break, but assigned homework anyways. I don't get it.
There are about two weeks of summer left, which means I must start the research project for an elective I signed up for. It's a world mythology class, which I found interesting because it was an overview of every country's folklore, rather than just one. The history is so long it's hard to go over everything for even one country in a single year-long class, but this one was supposed to be an overview-type, and it's likely to be stories I already know. Easy A!
The instructions for the assignment were to go to the Sumeru cultural museum, and pick out a legend or folktale from at least 1500 years ago. As I parked my car and got out, the humidity hit me like a truck. I'm talking about the humidity where it's hard to breathe. I hate Sumeru weather sometimes. A break in Snezhnaya or Mondstadt would be really welcome.
I started to walk towards the entrance. It's right off of the campus for the ancient college known as "The Akademiya", which means the old-style architecture is still around for this area of the capital. The Museum had a bit of a grand entrance, with a replica of a skeleton belonging to an ancient creature known as a Mitachurl out front.
I've been here before. In fact, I often go here to clear my head, or see the exhibits, or simple things like that. The staff knows me at this point, and they don't even mind because I always try to donate as compensation for my pestering.
"Hello, (y/n)," a man with long brown hair said to me, taking off his glasses and looking up from what he was reading. "Hello Mr. Zhongli!" I greeted excitedly. He's about ten years older than I, if I had to guess, but the way he talks makes him seem like an old man. He was almost always working the front desk.
"Any interesting stories in that book?" I asked.
"Oh, yes, but I best not bore you with the details. It's a very old book, and when it was written, the contents were already considered ancient history."
I went behind the counter to grab the spare stool, and got comfy. "Try me," I grinned, squinting my (e/c) eyes.
Mr. Zhongli smiled, and said, "for as much as my homeland of Liyue appreciates a good history lesson, you can always count on a born and bred Sumerian to like it more." I snorted at his joke before resting my head in my hand. "Works for me, sir, I have a history assignment about picking one ancient story to research and present."
"Oh, well then, I have the perfect one for you," said Zhongli. "I know this story so well that the people in it might as well have told me myself, and I think you'll find it quite relatable."
"Ooo, okay."
"It all began roughly 1500 years ago, give or take a few years. Back then, a person from the desert was born. Unfortunately, they were born into slavery."
"Wow...that's a way to start off. Is any of this real?"
"It's based on a true story, and if you hush you'll get to hear the end."
