What brought your attention to it was not actually the issue itself, but Spock pointing it out with a small mumble of 'fascinating.'
You were working at your station when Spock noticed a piece of paper elevated slightly off the desk. He lifted it softly into the air and it remained floating delicately right before you eyes. You were the only two still working in the graveyard shift, and for a second you thought it was just fatigue and your mind playing tricks on you, but it was real, very real. First it was the light objects, the paper and a few feathers from a sample. Next came the dishes the feathers were in and that was when you started worrying. There were live animals in here and a gravity simulator malfunction was very dangerous. In a minute it would be completely off and you would be the one floating. You started hurried checking cage locks and securing animals as Spock sealed all the live samples. This had only happened once before in the three years, and you had been sleeping at the time. You had awoke very surprised but it only lasted ten minutes that time. This one seemed to be happening a lot faster than last time.
Within another 45 seconds you and Spock were floating throughout the science station, staring at each other awkwardly.
"What now...?" You asked awkwardly making swimming motions to try and hold the bench below you.
"I believe it most logical to wait and not leave the room until the error has been corrected." Spock said logically, floating weirdly with his hands outstretched. You finally grabbed the bench and pushed yourself gently in Spock's direction. You floated next to him and grinned, sending him a wink.
"What was that?" Spock asked, raising his eyebrows in confusion.
"What was what?" You asked.
Spock slowly closed one of his eyes and imitated a wink, really slowly and awkwardly.
You bit you lip to hold back a laugh and you smiled at him. "A wink Mr. Spock. It can be a trust thing or an indication of flirting, or just something playful."
He nodded, taking in the information. "May I inquire as to which method you were using it for?"
"You'll never know," you laughed playfully, shooting him another wink to confuse him.
He frowned in a confused response.
You grinned and pushed him lightly, sending you both back a few centimeters. Your eyes widened in surprise and you stretched your body out towards him.
"Grab me Spock!" You laughed, slipping towards a large pile of very scared animal cages. He reached out his arm gently pulled you towards him, still floating helplessly. Spock let go of you gently and you both levitated silently. "That was cool," you grinned. You had liked Spock for forever now but he wouldn't take a hint. You had tried spending more time with him, talking to him about science, hanging out with him more and asking for his help but nothing was really working. "Mr. Spock can I tell you something?" You asked softly, lowering your normally loud and enthusiastic voice. He nodded and you continued.
"I like you Spock. I have liked you for ages and I've tried giving you hints but you never seemed to notice or retaliate or anything so I thought it was best I just told you directly."Spock was silent for a few seconds. You could feel your insides churn and you started feeling very heavy despite floating mid air. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything," you said awkwardly, biting you lip in frustration. The friendship you'd been trying so hard to create had just taken a strong blow and it would take forever to it back together.
"The feeling is mutual."
"What do you mean?" You muttered, looking up at him. He shot you a really bad wink and you broke out in a massive grin, pulling yourself toward him, and floating very close to his face. "Are you saying you like me as well?"
Spock didn't really reply. He didn't need to, he held his hand up in a Vulcan kiss (something you'd spent a lot of time researching) and you copied his gesture, grinning wildly. Spock let go gently and placed his hand around your waist, pulling you as close to him as he could and his other arm touched your face gently. He pulled your face close to his and pressed his warm lips softly to yours. You felt fireworks explode inside you and you felt like you were floating, although it wasn't far from the truth. He kissed you gently and your lips danced against his, and he pulled your body s close to his as possible. You wrapped your arms firmly around him, feeling his warmth pressing softly against you. Never had you felt so free and open and lose to another person. Spock gently let you go and a lime blush appear across his cheeks.
"Wow," you muttered speechlessly. Spock nodded and tightened his grip softly on your hands.
"What does that make us? Are we calling this a relationship or...?"
"I'd like to begin a relationship with you." He answered quickly, as if already knowing what you were going to ask, and how he wanted to answer it.You smiled awkward;y, "Okay wonderful... What now?"
Spock looked up into your eyes. "I believe I would like to kiss you again."
