Another roadtrip fic because I kind of love them I'm sorry

After being in the darkness and vast expanse of space for more days in a row than you could count, the open air and sunshine seemed pretty appealing. You hadn't encounter weather in over two months and something about it was unnatural. There was something calming about weather, something easy to forget until it became a rare occurence.

The weather on Farinus Twelve is beautiful and makes you grin as soon as you exite the shuttle craft. They have one sun but four moons, all slightly visible throughout the daytime.  You had made friends with a fair few people on the ship, many of whom were also excited to be off the Enterprise and out in the sunshine. Your closest of said friends, Hikaru Sulu, was excited with the xenobotny, and you couldn't blame him. The planet exhibited some amazing plants and flowers, many of which changed colour or moved. You're a little  more interested in the moons in all honesty, but the botany is still something truly unique

Hikaru loads up a truck of sorts and you help him. For looking at plants, he sure needs a lot of stuff. You carry a box of various tubes and cases, your own backpack slung over your shoulder and a small grin plastered on your face. You're not entirely sure where Sulu has you heading off to, but you know it's a fair drive away. A mountain lodge, Sulu may have mentioned.

"I couldn't find the fertilizer you mentioned," someone calls out. "I think zhis is it..."

You crane your neck to see around the front of the car. Sulu mentioned something about a friend coming along. You didn't know him well, but he was Sulu's roommate and partner on the bridge. You put the box in and shut the boot, walking around the front and introducing yourself. Sulu's Russian friend has a curly mess of hair and stunning dark blue eyes.  You shake his hand and Sulu told you a little about him and told him a little about you. He seems nice; smiling, polite and very friendly.

"Did you get snacks for the road?" Sulu asks, pulling out of the compound driveway and onto the main road.

"Of course I did," you mutter, digging into your backpack. "It's not a road trip without snacks or junk food."

Chekov beside you smiles. "How far away is the lodge?"

Sulu checks the clock in front of him. "Another four hours, we'll be there by dinner probably. "

You pass Sulu a handful of hard lollies, some you'd made sure to replicate before leaving. They were all kinds of fruit flavours, pineapple and grape being both your favourites. You weren't sure about Chekov however.

"Would you like some?" You asked him, holding the bag up so he could better see the label.

"Just a few thank you," he replies politely.

You gently tellhim to hold out his hands, and tipp almost the contents of the whole bag into his hands.

"Ay, that's heaps," he says laughing, biting back a grin. Sulu checks the mirror and cracks a smile. Chekov's super nice and you felt strangely calm around him. Sulu did say he was a nice guy and you reckon he was absolutely right.

Two hours left and both you and Chekov are getting a little restless. Sulu didn't mind driving, it was something he hadn't done in months so he'd agreed to 'pilot' the truck. Chekov had been bouncing his legs up and down for the past five minutes and you figured he was a little sore too. Sulu pulls over and you climb out of the truck, stretching your legs and bending backwards to crack your sore back.

Sulu mentions something about a diner that's 30 kilometers ahead; stopping there for proper food and bathrooms. Sulu asks Chekov if he wants to drive and he frowns, looking at the road. He declines politely and says something about being used to driving on the opposite side of the street, not wanting to cause an accident. You volunteer but Sulu shakes it off, inisting he'll be fine after they stop at the diner. The ride to the diner is fairly quick and it's nice to sit down somewhere other than the car seat. You slide into one side of the booth and Chekov sits down next to you, smiling polietly.
