Chekov

Your relationship was really nothing much more than awkward glances and smiles. Sulu, his best friend had been injured in a fencing incident, and wouldn't be working for at least another two weeks. You used every excuse you could to look over at him, pretending to look around casually or to address an officer in his direction, anything like that. You hadn't talked with him much so far. You'd tried but the words (like your brain) sudden turned to mush upon opening your mouth. The first time he greeted you, he said something cute like "it's wery nice to haff you here, hopefully you von't leawe the parking brake on like Sulu did..." You'd giggled and muttered something back, but that was as much as you'd talked. His accent had driven you crazy, every time he said something like "Keptin on ze bridge!" It took all your willpower not to melt into a puddle. He'd started to notice, like how the corners of your mouth flicked up when he said something.

The day was fairly normal, no major dramas. Just more cute glances and smiles. This time you caught him looking at you, and smiled warmly. He smiled back blushing, and quickly looked away. The captain groaned from behind you. "Honestly if I have to go another day watching you two trying to not be caught awkwardly looking at each other, I'm gonna quit my job and become a carpenter or something," he muttered rather loudly. You giggled and Chekov rolled his eyes. "Sorry Keptin," he replied smiling in your direction.

Your shift conveniently finished at the same time, so you were walking together towards the lunch hall, silent as normal. Chekov had that look on his face, as if he were about to say some thing but chose not to. He would open his mouth and then close it again. "Um, vould it be okay if ve sat togezher at lunch?" He asked, looking towards you hopefully. You nodded enthusiastically and muttered "I'd love to," blushing nervously. He smiled back, also flushing a light pink.

"So what's it light being a navigator?" You asked, trying to make conversation as best you could. He shrugged, "Kinda boring to be honest, zhere is a lot of maths and that's about it." You smiled, "I was going to be a navigator but I thought being a pilot would be cooler, because you get drive a massive ship and and that's pretty nice." He smirked, "Unless you leave zhe parking brake on." You started giggling and he smiled. Your giggling spread to him until you were just giggling stupidly for a while. "So he actually left it on?" You asked in disbelief. He nodded, beaming crazily. "Yeah, it vas hilarious..." He trailed off, your laughing coming to a slow stop. "It's a shame I'm only on the bridge for another two weeks," you shrugged, sighing sadly. "Yeah I really love having you zhere," he said, without thinking. His face suddenly went red, and he attempted to stutter an answer but just gave up after a few goes of trying and mutered something in Russian to himself instead. "I like hanging out with you Chekov, we should do this more often," you admitted. His face lit up and he grinned back at you. "Yeah, we should...Are you busy this weekend?" he asked, hopefully. Your stomach did an Olympic gymnastics routine and you agreed to meet up with him.

"Can I tell you something?" He asked, casting his glassy blue eyes towards the floor. "Sure," you said, watching him intently. "I- I like you, a lot.." He admitted, still looking at the floor. "You do?" You asked trying not to sound half as giggly as you felt. He nodded, glancing up at you quickly. "I'm sorry- I shouldn't have-" Before he could say anything else, you took his hand and squeezed it gently. "I like you too Pavel," you smiled. "A lot." He beamed like he had earlier before and stood up with you, so you could hug him. His body was warm and just perfect to you. You leaned your head against his and squeezed him tightly. You let go and couldn't help but giggle. He glanced awkwardly at the floor again, his hand running across the back of his neck. You giggled and pulled him back into another hug. "A lot," you whispered to yourself.
