His southern ascent always got the best of you. You hadn't talked to him much, but you heard him a lot, not that he was a particularly loud person, or talked heaps, but you just noticed it. You really wanted to talk to him more, to hear that southern drawl addressing you for once and not someone else. You really just wanted to have a conversation with him, and to get to know him better. You knew that he seemed and acted all grumpy and tough, with a hard exterior. But really, on the inside he was just a softie, and really nice. He was sitting behind you, and you were content just listening to him talk. You felt a tap on your shoulder, and you froze instantly. You somehow managed to gather your thoughts and turn around. It was him. "Darlin' can you pass me the salt?" He asked, smiling slightly. He called you darling. You smiled and passed it to him. "Thanks," he said smiling again. That's the first time he'd ever talked to you, and he called you darling. You couldn't help but smile to yourself. A couple of minutes later you noticed the people that he was sitting had left, an he was just at the table by himself. He stood up, but you pretended to keep reading on your PADD. 'Please don't leave the room,' you thought to yourself. For a second there, you were so caught up in your thoughts that you didn't even realise he sat down. Next to you. "Hi," you said happily smiling at him. He smiled back, taking a sip of a drink that smelt like alcohol. "I'm Leonard," He said extending a hand for you to shake. You shook it gratefully and told him your name. He smiled, sipping his drink again. "I like that name, brings back a few memories." You nodded smiling. Not only had he called you darling, but you actually got to talk to him for the first time, ever. The rest of the time was just a general conversation, that went way too fast. He told you about him being a doctor, and how space was 'disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence'. He looked at his watch, and frowned. "I've gotta go," he said looking back at you. "But, I'd really like to see you again some time." You smiled like crazy. "I'd really like that," you agreed. He stood up and smiled at you one last time before walking out of the room. You giggled, knowing that this wasn't the last of the southern ascent you'd hear.
