Chapter 7: Wartstrom

Metropolis City
Thursday, July 12
4:45 p.m.
   Two months went since interrogation the heroes tried to force on Amanda Waller didn't go as planned. They hoped for information to have been retrieved that could lead them to the 'Warstrom' project.

At the present moment, Elongated Man had infiltrated S.T.A.R. Labs under Batman's order. "Alright, Bruce. I'm in." He spoke through an earpiece to inform the Dark Knight.

"Alright. If I'm not mistaken you should be on the main floor. You want to reach level B2. I'll catch up with you soon." Batman informed him.

  "Got it." Ralph replied, shutting off the earpiece as he stretched into the ventilation system. He made his way through the system, going down to find the floor Batman told him to go.

   After much searching, Elongated Man stopped once finding the place he needed to be. "Bruce, are you sure this is smart? I mean, I know we want to solve the riddle to Warstrom but what if it leads to nothing?"

  "I understand your doubt, Ralph, but I'm not going to take my chances with a possible extermination of everyone we know." Batman said, confident that there's something lurking unseen. "Anyhow, I'm almost there."

  "If you say so, Bruce. I'm waiting on your call then." Elongated Man waited for Batman's arrival as he scouted the area through the vent.

   As Ralph scouted, from an elevator exited the General Richard Gaines and met with a man dressed in a navy blue business suit.

  "General Gaines, aren't I glad to see you my friend." The man greeted, extending his arm out to shake with the general.

  "Brian Hills, thank you for having me over on such short notice. But let's save the pleasantries for another time. I've come to talk about pending business." The General went straight to the point of their meeting.

  "Yes of course. Follow me then." Hills said, leading the way to a door towards a different elevator.

   Ralph's nose twitched as he observed the two men entering the elevator. "Bats, they're..." As he was to speak through the earpiece, the Dark Knight crouched beside him. "Never mind."

  "General Gaines seems to have brought along a guest with him." Elongated Man informed. "His name is Brian Hills. I never heard of him, what about you?"

  "He's head research for S.T.A.R. Labs. Specializes in metahuman genes and alien technology." The Dark Knight responded Ralph's question, identifying him.

   Batman noticed on Elongated Man a melancholic look on his face. "How are you holding up?" He knew well what troubles Ralph. 

  "Awful. Losing Sue is still something I haven't gotten use to." Ralph sighed. It had been a year since the murder of his wife at the hands of Jean Loring, which led to many troubles to solve. "And I'm sure I won't either."

  "I know, Ralph. I hope you can find peace soon." Batman placed a hand on his shoulder, reassuring him. "Thanks, Bruce."

   Batman smirked, something he didn't do much. "I'm hacking into the building's systems and rewind the security's time three hours back."

  "So we can now walk in and no one'll notice? Except guards of course." Ralph chuckled, slipping through the vent.

  "Yes." Batman kicked the vent down so he can exit. Standing in the room, the Dark Knight scavenged through cabinets and papers in search for evidence.
