Chapter 13: What Happened?

Tommy and I blocked Naomi from entering the house behind Jade, both of us crossing our arms and staring at her. She raised one eyebrow staring hard into my eyes, and then into Tommy's who held her gaze.

"You can't keep me out of my own house" she put her hands on her hips, and Tommy eyed her up and down.

"What's going on with Jade?" He asked quietly, making sure no one else heard. Naomi held her hard composure, it was going to take a lot more than angry Tommy to get it out of her. I opened my mouth to speak but suddenly Tommy's hands grabbed her shoulders roughly. Her eyes widened and she stared at him, his face inches from hers. "What's. Going. On." He asked slowly.

"Tommy..." I placed my hand on his shoulder, he was a little hotheaded sometimes. He stared at her a little more, but let her go and crossed his arms again. "You're not leaving here until you tell us what's going on" I spoke more politely than Tommy.

"Look, I honestly don't know" she sighed, looking at the floor sadly. "She won't tell me anything" she pushed her hair behind her ear and Tommy's eyes grew soft as he watched her. "I'm trying to figure it out, okay?" I scratched my head in embarrassment, maybe we shouldn't have came onto her like that.

"Sorry... For uh... For grabbing you" Tommy mumbled and he looked at his feet, moving to the side and letting Naomi by. He watched her walk in the house and I smacked the back of his head. "OW, BRENDAN WHAT THE FUCK" he growled, pushing me slightly.

"Stop staring, you're rude" I walked into the house and heard Tommy repeat my words in a mocking voice. I rolled my eyes and walked to the living room where Grandma stared at me and Tommy.

"You boys alright?" She asked sweetly, we nodded and before she could say anything else we walked upstairs. We could see Naomi's room door slightly open and Tommy gave me a mischievous smirk as he tiptoed to it and looked through the crack.

"Tommy stop being a pervert" he turned back and looked at me, his eyes saying 'are you fucking serious' and he looked in again, I peeked over his shoulder, hoping to see or hear whatever was going on with Jade.

"You know, if you're gonna be sneaky you're going to have to do better than that." We heard Naomi's  voice from behind us and we both jumped, Tommy threw a punch out of instinct and whacked me in the chest, I was winded and I wheezed.

"Shit, Brendan, why'd you get in the way" Tommy was trying hard not to laugh, and Naomi had her hand covering her mouth. The kid was younger than me and his punched knocked the life out of me. Naomi pushed past Tommy and walked into her room, I caught a glimpse of Jade sitting on the bed before she closed the door. I was rubbing my chest as we walked back to our room.

"Jesus Tommy" I breathed. Tommy laughed and pulled his hat off throwing it on the floor and sprawling on his bed.

"How's Tess?" He asked, sitting up and looking at me. I smiled thinking about my beautiful girlfriend.

"She's good" I smiled, clearing my throat and looking at Tommy who had his legs on the wall as he laid on the bed. "You should get a girlfriend Tommy" he extended his neck and looked at me upside down.

"I uh-" I laughed.

"I know Tommy" Tommy sat up and looked at me angrily.

"You know what?!" He growled. My eyes widened, wondering where his hostility came from.

"That you... Uh" his eyes bore into mine, like he dared me to say it out loud "nevermind" Tommy grunted and went back into the position he was in before. I laid back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, listening to Tommy talk about pointless stuff, but I eventually zoned out and got lost in my mind.
