Chapter Twelve
The Consequence
We arrived back at Konoha a few days later. The Uchiha clan was in mourning, and Team Minato and I were invited to attend the funeral. Since we did not have the body, we had no hope have an actual burial ceremony, but we would do one without one by the memorial stone. There, the Hokage would personally engrave the name of the beloved Uchiha upon it.
I was currently at Minato-sensei’s house comforting Rin on the floor mat . . . while Minato, Kushina, and Kakashi just sat on the peach-colored couch.
“I c-can’t b-b-b-b-believe t-that h-h-he d-d-d-d-died . . .” she cried, her eyes red from the whole matter of it.
“It’s okay, Rin,” I comforted her as I tried to convince myself of that mentally.
“N-n-no . . . i-i-i-it’s not . . .” she cried even harder. “H-h-h-he l-loved . . . me . . . and I-I j-j-j-ju-ust p-p-p-push-pushed h-h-him . . . a-a-away!”
“Rin . . .” I responded with my eyes wrinkling in grief.
“Sensei . . . when does the funeral start again?” Kakashi asked, trying to contain his emotions.
“In about an hour, you should get changed into the black clothes now,” Sensei replied softly.
“Yes, you three should,” Kushina said, speaking for what could have been the first time today.
“Hai,” I replied softly, reminiscing of Obito.
Kakashi, Rin, and I changed into our black kimonos and got ready for the funeral. I placed Rin’s hair into a tiny bun with two hairpins. On the other hand, I placed my hair down in an elegant way. I’m usually never this fancy . . . but . . . this is a special, no wait, not special, but very, very, very special occasion. So I guess that’s why . . . (what else? . . .)
“Ready yet, you three?” Minato asked, solemn.
“Hai,” I replied grimly as I followed him along with Rin, Kakashi, and Kushina out to the place where the funeral would be held—the memorial stone.
“We gather here today to remember the death of someone very dear to us all—Uchiha Obito. He died heroically for his teammates, saving his comrades all the way until the end . . .” the Hokage announced formally. “I will now allow his comrades and family to speak personally.”
A woman of her early forties walked up to the small platform and towards the podium.
“M-my son . . .” the mother cried grievously as Kakashi looked down at the ground in remorse.
