It's a better written Kakashi story with a more thought-out and deliberate plot, and I think it is a good contrast to the nature of this story.

As for this story, it's a little cheesy here and there, so I'll be editing each and every chapter of its cheesiness and that stuff throughout several months.

Summary || 概要

[Hiraeth: a homesickness for a home you can't return to]

Sandaime assigned him a mission. His friends persuaded him to take a break. She took it for him. He came back from his vacation. She didn't return from her mission.

Prologue || 序章

Sometimes life throws you a curveball, and it ends with death staring you in the eyes. Sometimes life makes you take detours, and it leads to something wonderful. But it's oftentimes when you least expect it that that curveball-- that chance-- appears. Some chances lead you down cliffs, while others head straight to your destination. It's just the matter of choosing which door to open that you'll discover where you'll end up.

Chapter One || 第1章

Dawn || 夜明け

Kakashi: Age 19

Kono: Age 18

Post Third-Shinobi War

"KAKASHI!" a dynamic voice shouted from the distance in a fume of smoke. You could see him struggle to stop his sprint as he neared the man he called.

The grey-haired shinobi before him sighed, "What is it this time, Gai?" It seemed more of a statement than a question.

He paused, squatting down to momentarily catch his breath, before startlingly standing up straight and pointing at his rival.

"Say, it's been a while!" he grinned, winking as he gave his friend a signature thumbs up. "How 'bout a rematch?"

Kakashi facepalmed. He had a feeling Gai was going to ask that, and he had a feeling he himself was going to win again too. As always, but he decided to accept the request anyways, or else his comrade would start crying a "spring of youth." Or so Gai called it.

"Okay, fine."

"Yata!" Gai pumped his fist in the air, eyes sparkling. "We will race to the top of the Hokage Rock!"

Kakashi simply shoved his hands in his pockets before nodding his head half-heartedly. It was still morning, and now he had to 'wake up' for real to keep up with Gai's antics.
