End of the road

C:42 Luke's POV

It had been about six months since we left Kate behind.  A lot had changed. Jade had become more withdrawn , giving up her role of leader. So i became leader, and Dan became the second in command. We lost Lily in a herd of roamers ( we decided they needed a name). Dan took over going on runs, taking Fin and Abigail with him. We had gained a few more people, Harry, 21, who Dan had found on a run one day, he was a mechanic and had another truck and Sam, 19, who was training to be a doctor before everything, she was really good with the kids. Our group was strong, but maybe not strong enough. 

"I'm going on a run, " dan told me kneeling down beside me "im taking harry and sam as well as fin and abigail. i've found a big shopping centre and i think it would be safer with more people, not just the kids. " "thats fine " i said, not bothing to look up from my map. "is there anything you want while im gone?"he asked. "nah im good, you might wanna ask jade though" i told him. he shook his head "already have, she doesnt want anything.right see you in a bit "he got up and hopped onto the back of the truck, to where everyone else was waiting. i turned back to my map. we were still meant to be heading to Jades school but if we carried on going at this rate it was going to take us about four years. I sighed, looking up, to see Jade walking over to me. "whats up?" i asked her, she had a backpack on her shoulders and a gun strapped to her leg. "im going to go back to find her!" she told me, walking over to our other truck. " no your not, " i told her, looking back at the map. " its too dangerous. " " its not your call luke" she said, opening the drivers side door. " your not taking the truck, its got no petrol" i told her as she tried to turn the ignition. she hit the steering wheel in frustration " fine, she got out, i will walk then. "  she turned towards the road, "think about this jade, " i shouted, running after her, " are you really going to do this? leave harry, sam, dan and fin? leave Abby? leave me? "i asked her, grabbing her shoulder and spinning her around to face me. "I'm going back to find my best friend" she hit my hand away " something i should have done months ago, Kate is the only family i have left. Im not just going to abandon her. " she turned and walked towards the road. 

why could this group just stick together.
