End of the road

C:33 jade's POV

I pulled the trigger.

"Go! " Luke screamed,  scooping up abigail and aiming his gun with his other hand. She was still sobbing into his shoulder.

But I couldn't move,  I was frozen to the spot.  I had just shot my little sister.

" we gotta go ! "kate said,  grabbing my hand and pulling me along.  Luke kicked open the door as we ran up the stairs and into our house.

I snapped out of feeling sorry for myself,  this wasn't the time nor the place.

" grab your bags and throw food in them. " I shouted letting go of kates hand.  Everyone started hurriedly packing,  knowing that it would only be a matter of time before Morgan came back to check on us.

I spotted the car keys on the table.  But no one could drive.  abigail didn't know how,  Luke was shaking too much and I couldn't think straight.....

I pocketed the keys.

"let's go! " Luke shouted,  grabbing abigails hand and running out the door with her.  I pushed past them,  running towards our truck.  I opened the drivers door.  Looking at kate

" I can't " she said,  realising what I wanted her to do.

" yes you can." I screamed,  pushing her into the drivers seat as we all climbed in. 

"I don't know how! "

" yes you do! " I shouted, " for God's sake drive" with that she put her foot  down and we sped towards the main gates.

"we going on a run.  " I lied smoothly to the girl who was manning the gate.  She shook her head at me.

" fine,  but don't be long.  " I nodded as kate started the truck up again.

" wait for us! " I heard a voice scream from behind us.  As our friends Austin,  fin and lily came running towards us.  Packs on their back.

" we wanna come with you" fin said as Austin lifted him onto the back of the truck (fin was only 8 and a little smaller than abigial).

"guys, we aren't coming.... " I started,  giving them a sad look.

" back?I know, that's why we wanna come. "lily shouted as her and Austin jumped in the back.

" fine" I shouted as kate put her foot down speeding away from Eastwood.  The only place we had been safe.

As night fell,  we set up camp.  And as we all sat around the campfire.  Lily snuggling up to Luke,  not that it bothered me or anything, fin and abigail asleep cuddled up to Austin,  I noticed something was wrong.  kate was sat away from everyone else in the back of the truck.  So I decided to go and make sure she was OK.

"kate? " I asked,  as I climbed into the back of the truck.  She didn't reply, or even look at me but carried on playing with something in her hands.

" kate?!" I said a little louder

"what?" she said,  still with her back to me,  I could hear her voice waver a little,  like she was crying.

"kate look at me. " I said,  moving closer to her,  and quickly spinning her around so I could see her face.  She had tear stains running down her face.

" what's wrong? "I asked,  restraining myself from hugging her. I could see that she held a gun in her hands.  Didn't want to get in the way of that.

" he's gone. " she said,  anger spreading across her face." and it's all her fault" she drew her gun,  aiming it at her little sister.

"kate,  she's a kid"

"she's got to go"

"no"

"yes,  "

" no drop the gun and come with me. "she did as she was asked.  Following me back over to the campfire.  I woke up the little ones then made it clear I wanted to talk.

" listen up.  " I started,  looking around at everyone" today has been ruff,  we have lost people.  Good and not as good.  Today we lost our leader josh,  he was a great leader and kept smiling til the very end.  And today I had to shoot my younger sister.  She lost her way,  and I did what I had to do to save us.  And I don't regret it,  but I wish I didn't have to do it.  " I looked at abigail" everyone here has made mistakes,  we forgive,  but we don't forget.  Remember that. " I turned back to the whole group."  things are gonna change round here.  I am the new leader,  it's not up for discussion.  We stick together,  that is the only way we survive.  We need an aim.  I want to go to back to my school "

Everyone in the group nodded at me. 

So we created our aim.
