After escaping my friends that were canoodling in the common room, I managed to find myself looking in the mirror at my reflection in the girls bathroom. This bathroom seemed familiar for some reason, but I couldn't quite remember what had been so familiar about. I assumed I had just used it once before.
My reflection showed me a beautiful girl with long, wavy hair. Her usually lit up eyes that were filled with excitement were dull and had purple bags hanging under them. She was unusually pale and quite too skinny.
Because of the feeling of lonlieness I received from my friends being together, I looked this way. A smile barely reaches my eyes anymore and I couldn't help but blame one boy, Tom Riddle.
We still haven't spoken since our tragic breakup and it was eating me alive. He acted as if we were never a couple, as if I didn't matter to him. Tom completely rejected my small gestures of acknowledgment as if I hadn't even existed. My eyes filled with tears and I had to blink a few times to get rid of them. Suddenly, I heard a sniffle echo around the room. I knew that it wasn't me because I hadn't even cried, therefore making it impossible for me to sniffle.
Another sniffle sounded from the stalls and I cleared my throat before asking if anyone was in there.
"Hello?" I asked, received no reply.
"My name is Dahlia Key, I promise I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to know if your alright." Suddenly, the stall door opened and revealed a fourth year. Judging by the color of her robes, she happened to be a Ravenclaw.
"Are you okay?" I asked, walking towards her slowly. She shook her head as if she were saying 'no'.
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?" She wiped a few tears that had betrayed her eyes and fallen down her already red cheeks. They must have been red from her crying. My heart broke for the girl and I felt the urge to hug her. However, I didn't.
"Everyone makes fun of me." She let out a sob and placed her face in her hands.
"Where are your friends?" I asked, not sure if she wanted me to comfort her or retrieve her friends.
"I don't have any." The poor girl cried even more and I knew at that point what I should do. I enveloped her in my arms and she wept into my shoulder. My arms held her tightly and I responded, "You have me."
In response, she wrapped her arms around me tightly and I patted her hair as a way of soothing her. We stood there for a while in silence. Neither of us knew what to say.
"What's your name?" I finally spoke up as she stopped crying. We had already pulled away from the hug and were sitting across from each other on the floor.
"Myrtle." I gave her a sweet smile and began talking to her as if I'd known her for years. She answered all the questions I asked her which were basically small questions like, "What's your favorite color?"
We had gotten to know each other extremely well and began to share a few laughs. Finally, after hours of sitting with her, I decided it was best if we returned to our common rooms. Myrtle pointed out that it was time for dinner.
She walked side by side with me down to the Great Hall and looked upset when we had to depart.
We bid each other goodbyes and separated to sit with our house tables. I bounced over to the Gryffindor table, happy that I've made a new friend but the smile dropped from my face when I took a glance at my friends. Matt, Dorea, Charlus, and Lexi were acting all coupley towards each other. I noticed that Gabrielle was sat with some boy at the Hufflepuffs table; Fran was sitting with Xavier; all I could sit with was Amanda. We still weren't on the best of terms since our dispute over what Charlus had said to her.
