There have been four more attacks since the first one, resulting in five petrified students in the Hospital Wing. All five of them had either been from Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor. I was worried for Myrtle, she was a muggle-born and could be the next target.
With each attack, came a new warning. Each had something written along the lines of kill mudbloods, the heir is cleansing the Wizarding world, and Slytherin's duties will be fulfilled at last. It was quite alarming and the teachers began enforcing rules to keep the students safe.
Now, everyone was forced to sleep in sleeping bags in the Great Hall. Teachers had to escort students to and from classes, as well as to and from the bathrooms. No one could leave or wander the castle alone. We were not allowed to go outside.
At the moment, many girls were in the second floor bathroom. Myrtle and I were among them but were pushed to the back of the line. When I exited the stall, it was almost empty. I turned on the water and washed my hands before calling out Myrtle's name. There was no answer. I figured she had already left and made my way out of the bathroom.
The Arithmacy teacher led us out of the corridor and brought us back down to the Great Hall. Since we had to sleep with students from our House, I was didn't have a chance to say goodnight to Myrtle.
Throughout the entire night, teachers roamed about the Great Hall, on guard. Professor Slughorn was talking in a hushed voice with the Headmaster and Dumbledore.
"Where is she?" The Headmaster asked, fear dripping from his voice. Dumbledore looked around, scanning the lumps of students sleeping in their sleeping bags and an expression of worry covered his face.
"We must send out a search party. Round up prefects." The Headmaster ordered.
"But, sir, the Gryffindor prefect is a muggle-born." Dumbledore's usually calm voice was tinted with worry.
They looked around and saw I was awake. Then the trio looked at each other and nodded.
Professor Dumbledore woke up the Gryffindor prefect and Headboy, before making his way towards me. "Miss Key, the spteachers could use your assistance with something if your willing to help."
I nodded and wiggled out of my sleeping bag, "I am aware of the fact that you were friends with Myrtle Warren from Ravenclaw?"
I nodded again and looked around for Myrtle, only to find that she was missing. My eyes widened in fear and I just shook my head, "Where is she? Professor, where is she?"
"Dear, we need your assistance looking for her..." I nodded and wiped a tear that fell from my eye.
"Is there anywhere she might be that you could think of?" My mind immediately went to the girls' bathroom on the second floor. The last time I saw her was entering a stall. I never saw her come out....
"The second floor girls' bathroom, sir." He nodded and asked for me to lead the way. Other Professors realized what was happening and followed after us.
"Albus, what is the meaning of this?" Headmaster Dippet asked with worry.
"Sir, she could possibly be in here." I said as I reached the second floor girls' bathroom. They nodded and I led them inside. A scream left my throat as I saw a body lying on the ground. Sure enough, it was Myrtle. She must have been petrified. I rushed to her and knelt down on her side, turning her over to face me. Myrtle was extremely cold.
"Myrtle. Myrtle, wake up! C'mon this isn't funny!" I cried out as I realized she was dead. The teachers stared at us in horror and finally, Professor Dumbledore pulled me away from her body.
