Dean and Castiel decided that they should probably go to their next class. Dean was hesitant, asking if Castiel was sure he'd be okay for the rest of the day, Castiel assured Dean that he'd be fine, he rarely had more than one panic attack a day, although he didn't tell Dean that. Dean did make him promise that he'd call him or text him or just talk to him if he didn't feel good. Castiel promised and left when the bell rang.
The rest of the day was boring, Castiel was glad he could focus on his work, or at least for the most part. Dean was on his mind; the way he held him...comforted him. He found himself remembering his warmth when they were holding each other. And the kiss. Castiel's mind always went back to the kiss, what did it mean? Just to give me assurance...? Something else...
But Dean Winchester is straight.
Castiel decided to think of it later, or perhaps not at all. Honestly Castiel just wanted to keep Dean's presence in the back of his head and in his heart, he feels safe. I feel safe when I'm with him.
The day passed easily, Castiel didn't run into any problems. Actually it was pretty good, Ash ended up sneaking into his full period study hall and they talked about the universe and how it's expanding. They also contemplated whether or not the future was being filled with events they haven't lived through and if their future was already written for them. Before the conversation ended Castiel told Ash he should become a quantum physicist, to which Ash replied, "Do they do drug tests?"
When the school day finally finished Castiel walked outside to where he knew the Impala and Dean would be waiting.
The first thing Dean said when he saw Castiel was, "You okay?" Castiel told him he was fine and got into the passenger seat. Dean got in after him and Balthazar was already in the backseat playing a game on his phone. Castiel and Dean didn't talk on the way to Sam and Gabriel's middle school. Castiel kept stealing glances at Dean though. Castiel liked the way the sun outlined Dean's body and made his hair a more golden color. Castiel thought Dean looked gorgeous with one hand on the steering wheel, other elbow resting out the open window, and slightly nodding his head to the beat of the rock music blaring through the speakers. Although really anything Dean did Castiel thought was attractive in one way or another.
Eventually they made it to the middle school, Gabe and Sam crammed themselves in the backseat, squishing Balthazar and making him mess up his game, which he made sure to tell Gabriel about. Gabriel just shrugged off the comment and looked down at the ground, Castiel could tell there was something wrong, but he didn't bring it up, he just turned away and sent glances back at his brother though the rearview mirror.
The ride home was pretty quiet, there wasn't much conversation, just the old music from the radio filling the car. When they reached the salvage yard Dean, Sam, and Balthazar went inside, but Gabriel had asked to talk to Castiel alone.
"What's up, Gabe?" Castiel asked. Gabriel didn't look up, he just twisted the toe of his shoe in the ground. Castiel almost asked again, but Gabriel finally raised his gaze and let out a fast question.
"Are you gay?"
Castiel froze for a moment, shock hitting him at full force. He felt himself blush, and Gabriel appeared a bit awkward and confused. "Um," Castiel thought for a second, should I tell him? "Uh, yeah. I... I am." Gabriel looked back down at the ground and for a brief second Castiel thought he might be disappointed.
"And that means you like boys, like others like girls?" Castiel nodded his head. Gabriel was acting very strange.
"Yeah, I do."
Gabriel looked up again.
"Well, is it possible to like both?" Castiel was hit with another wave of shock. Gabriel had a dark blush across his cheeks and neck; Castiel was startled and confused.
"Both girls and boys?"Castiel asked to clarify. Gabriel nodded his head shyly. "Yeah, it's called being bisexual." Gabe looked back up, but not at Castiel's eyes. "Why are you asking, Gabe?"
Gabriel squirmed, his whole face was red, along with his neck and ears. He rubbed the back of his head. "Well...there's this...this guy...and..." Castiel understood, he smiled and reached out to put a hand on Gabriel's shoulder.
"You like him?" Castiel questioned. Gabriel nodded again. He was about to ask who it was, but Gabriel quickly got a word in.
"I like him, but I also like Kali...and I'm dating Kali. I don't know what to do." Castiel shrugged.
"Gabe, I'd love to help, honestly, I would, but I think the last time I dated someone, was when I was with April." Gabriel shook his head.
"That was almost four years ago."
"I know."
"And she was a girl."
"I know, that's how I found out I was gay, well, her and..." Dean. "Someone else." Gabriel nodded his head. "Anyway you might want to ask Balthazar, I think he's had more luck in the dating department." More like one night stand department, Castiel thought. Gabriel nodded then started to make his way towards the door. Castiel walked next to him for the short distance, splitting up when Gabriel went to find Balthazar.
Castiel tried to get a start on his homework while he thought of Gabriel. So he's bi, I'm gay, and Balthazar's straight...wow...I bet Michel would be so proud of us. Dean found him on (his) bed, Castiel didn't know what to call it since it wasn't technically his, but it's not like it was Dean's either... It was just a bed.
Dean peered over at Castiel's homework. "What is that?" He asked. Castiel looked up at him.
"Calculus." Castiel replied. Dean made a face and shook his head.
"Why would you volunteer to do calculus, I can barely understand Algebra." Castiel smiled and shrugged.
"I don't know, it was just a recommended course, I understood pre calc pretty well, so it made sense to do it." Dean smiled.
"You really are smart aren't you?"
Not smart enough to stop loving you.
"I try." Castiel responded. Dean sat down on the foot of the bed. Castiel had his legs bent, so there was a perfect amount of space for him. This is strange. Castiel thought. God, all the people around me are acting strange; first Gabriel now Dean.
Oh, shit.
He's not gonna confess he's bi, is he? I don't think I could handle that.
"You okay, Dean?" Castiel asked. Dean looked up from his hands and at Castiel. He smiled and nodded.
"I'm good." His gaze dropped to his hands again, "I guess I just wanted to be near you." Castiel felt his face heat up.
You can't just say shit like that.
