When Castiel arrived at school the next day he couldn't find Ash sitting outside. It seemed odd, all Castiel wanted to do was ask him about the weird text that was sent to him. Castiel asked Dean if he knew where Ash might be, but he didn't know anything more than Castiel. He shrugged off the concern assuming that Ash had just skipped or slept in, he had done that a lot after all.
So Castiel just carried on and went to his first hour class. It was halfway through that one of the dean's assistants came in with a note for Castiel. It was from his counselor asking him to come down to see her. He got nervous quickly. Thinking over everything that he could've possibly done to get a note from his counselor.
He had been there before. When his parents died his counselor wanted to know how he was dealing with the whole situation, and he had also gone when she found out about the trial and what Michael had been doing to them when they lived with him. Castiel like Dr. Harvelle, she was nice and seemed caring. Plus Castiel knew Jo, her daughter. Even though Dr. Harvelle was a good person Castiel still found himself anxious every time he entered the office. He hated talking about himself and his problems.
He got up from his desk and began to walk to the counselors room. Did they find out about the drug abuse? He wondered. Oh, shit, did they find out about when I had that pot on me? He could feel his heart begin to beat faster. He was just hoping he could calm himself down a bit before he got to Dr. Harvelle's office.
When he entered the room he saw Dr. Havelle sitting in a chair. When she saw him she stood up and greeted him warmly. Castiel returned it a bit awkwardly and took a seat across from her.
"Do you know why you're here, Castiel?" She asked tentatively. Castiel shook his head. She gave a reassuring smile. "It's some of your teachers understanding that you were friends with a boy named Ash." Castiel nodded, wondering what this had to do with anything.
"I am, is he in trouble or something?" Castiel was trying to not let his voice show his concern.
"Oh, Castiel. I'm sorry, but, Ash, he's- well, he passed away."
Castiel didn't do anything. He just stared at Dr. Harvelle. He couldn't believe it, Ash is...?
"It seems to come as a surprise to you. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss, but often with suicides," Suicide? "There are warning signs that he could've been showing. We were wondering if you knew had any idea. There was no note." Castiel still didn't do anything. It was like his mind decided to shut down. He was trying to push Dr. Harvelle's voice from his head.
It can't be.
He wouldn't.
"Castiel?" He heard his name called. "Castiel?" He looked up at her and her expression saddened. "I'm sorry." Castiel shook his head.
"I just saw him yesterday at lunch." Dr. Harvelle nodded.
"I know sometimes it seems like these things can't happen to you, and I'm sorry for that. Can you tell me about the last time you saw him?" Castiel took a deep shaky breath.
"It was at lunch." Castiel began. "He, um, seemed normal for the most part, but, um... he..." Castiel paused, wondering if he should tell her about Ash's habit of getting high.
"What, Castiel?" She asked. "It's okay, you can talk to me. This is a safe place." Castiel sighed.
"He... was high. Which wasn't too weird for him, but this time it was... I don't know. I think he smoked more or something. It wasn't so bad, he could function and everything, but I told him to go home. I didn't want him to get in trouble if a teacher noticed or something." Dr. Harvelle was nodding her head.
