23 ∞ the bite
"Hey," Lily chirped as Isaac shut his locker door. He jumped in surprise, not expecting her to be there and being the horrible person she was – she giggled slightly. "Whoa, someone's jumpy – can't say I blame you after what happened last night," she drifted off, her laughter fading as she noticed the black eye he was sporting. He seemed to notice her looking at it as he looked away awkwardly, uncomfortable with the look she was giving him. "Are you okay?" she asked, frowning slightly. She'd found out from her dad what had happened but he'd also questioned her about Isaac's life at home, wondering if she knew anything about it. She'd wondered why at the time but now the pieces were coming together.
"I'm fine, grave robberies happen all the time," Isaac shrugged, ignoring what she was really asking about.
"That's not what I meant and you know it," Lily replied.
Isaac clenched his jaw, "I'd rather not talk about it."
Lily wanted to push it further – she wanted to get him to admit what was going on but she realised how unfair that was with the way she was hiding things from people. Isaac barely knew her and while she wasn't one for boundaries when making friends, she understood that not everyone was like her and he might not feel completely comfortable spilling everything to her. Sighing, she nodded, "I get that. Just know, I'm here if you ever need to talk or advice or a joke – I can't promise you that my jokes will always be funny but I can say that there'll always be an endless amount."
He laughed slightly, nodding, "Thanks." Lily was about to try and talk about something brighter when Isaac's eyes flashed with something and he looked at her warily, "You said I could ask for advice, right?"
"Uh," Lily pretended to think about it, "That was so long ago, just give me a second to jog my memory." Looking back at him, she saw he was serious so she bit her lip to restrain her smile and nodded, "Yeah. I did, why?"
"If you," he hesitated before asking, "If you had the chance to change your life for the better but at a cost, would you do it?"
Lily raised her eyebrows in consideration, "Uh, what's the cost? 'Cause if I have to like give up something like school, then sure but if I have to never eat pizza again – then is my life really changing for the better?" Seeing that he didn't appreciate her reply, she sighed, "Wow, tough crowd. But uh, I guess I'd take the chance. I mean, it's not like the cost is another person's life or anything right?"
Isaac stilled, not replying as though she had said something that stopped him. She was about to question his very suspicious pause when the bell rang, signalling next lesson and a chemistry test. It seemed all she was ever doing in chemistry was tests. Luckily for them, that was one of the classes Isaac shared with her. "Ready for the chemistry test?" she asked him as they made their way there.
"Not particularly," he huffed, "You?"
"If this was a test on the chemistry in Breaking Bad, then I'd be able to say yes but unfortunately, it's not," Lily pulled a face.
"You could answer questions on how the science in Breaking Bad works?" Isaac replied in disbelief.
"Uh duh," Lily rolled her eyes as they got to the room, "I'm telling you, Isaac, I could run a successful drug empire if I truly wanted."
Isaac laughed but he was the only one amused by her joke as their chemistry teacher, Mr Harris spoke, "The only way you'd be able to help in a drug empire, Miss Stilinski, was if you were a mule." Lily's mouth gaped open in shock as she took her seat, watching as Isaac took his, laughing under his breath at Mr Harris' comment. She wasn't sure if he was actually allowed to say that as a teacher but it was obvious he didn't care as he muttered under his breath, "I'm sick of people thinking that they're chemistry experts just because they watch a couple episodes of Breaking Bad."
