34 ∞ fun sucker
"So, we're going to a rave?" Lily raised her eyebrows as they entered the animal clinic. Why was she always going to fun things for non fun reasons? Last time, they'd gone to a club to hunt a Kanima and this time, they were going to a rave – to hunt a Kanima. There was nothing fun about a Kanima. The Kanima was a complete fun sucker and right now, Lily felt like she could use some fun. Both the boys ignored her, leading the way to Deaton who had a tray filled with random looking powders. She felt the odd urge to play with them but knew that was a terrible idea.
Reaching into some drawers, he pulled out a bottle of something, raising it to show them, "This is what you'll be using on Jackson."
"Ketamine?" Scott asked.
"It's the same thing we use on the dogs, just a higher dosage," Deaton explained, he handed it over along with a syringe and needle. "If you can get close enough to Jackson, it should slow him down enough to buy you some time." Pulling out a jar of black powder with a weird marking on it, he continued, "This is some of what you'll use to create the barrier. This part is for you, Stiles – only you."
Stiles gulped, frowning, "Uh, that sounds like a lot of pressure. Can we maybe find a slightly less pressure-filled task for me? Why don't we give this task to, Lily? We've pretty much got the same DNA."
Lily rolled her eyes, patting his back, "Sorry bro but he picked you – only you."
Deaton ignored the two, continuing in his explanation for the plan, "It's from the mountain ash tree, which is believed by many cultures to protect against the supernatural-"
"-and we know for sure that this stuff actually works?" Lily pursed her lips, "Because what you just said has such vague confirmation for its power and that's not-"
"-Lily, let the man finish," Stiles cut her nervous rant off, sighing. He nodded at Deaton, who sent the twins a bemused look but carried on talking anyway.
"This office is lined with ashwood, which makes it difficult for someone like Scott to cause me any trouble," Deaton told them, hoping to reassure Lily that the ash would work. It was a little helpful but until it worked, Lily would be worried that it wouldn't work – that was just something that she couldn't help.
Stiles looked at the powder suspiciously, raising his eyebrows, "Okay, so then what? I just spread this around the whole building and then either Jackson or whoever's controlling him can't cross it?"
"They'll be trapped," Deaton confirmed.
"Doesn't sound too hard," Scott reassured Stiles.
Frowning, Lily blurted, "Sounds a little bit too easy actually." She knew that you were never meant to say that because it made things even harder but she just felt the need to point it out. Maybe it was pessimistic of her but she felt like it was more along the lines of realism – or maybe, she was still pretty bitter about the events of the week and that was causing her to be kind of grumpy. Either way, she didn't trust the plan fully.
"That's not all there is," Deaton added, "Think of it like gunpowder. It's just powder until a spark ignites it – you need to be that spark, Stiles."
Stiles paused, appearing horrified at the idea, "If you mean light myself on fire, I don't think I'm up for that-"
"-yeah me either, the smell would be terrible," Lily mused, grimacing as she imagined the smell. She'd burnt her hair once with the curlers and the smell had been horrifying so she couldn't even being to imagine what a full human body would smell like – as she thought that, she got flashbacks to Peter and realised that she knew what the smell of burning human flesh was. Shaking those thoughts away, she did her best not to show everyone that she was internally freaking out.
