"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone. I'll be waiting; all that's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess, It's a love story, baby, just say, 'Yes'. "

Somewhere, along the drive to where we were going, I fell asleep against the window of the car. At times, I stirred and felt Alec glance over at me for a second, cracking a soft smile. Then I went back to sleep. Only then, did I notice a change. Alec snaked his hand through mine and gripped tightly, instantly forcing my mind elsewhere; to Olivia and Jackson, in other terms. Remembering how I had always wanted something as special. Here it was, I guess. That special something. That special someone..I smiled, taking a soft breath and allowing the darkness to come again.
"Wake up, Avalon. We're here." Alec spoke softly, brushing his hand across my cheek. I sat up and wiped my eyes tiredly, looking around. He laughed. His laugh was beautiful. The way it just floated in the air easily and made you smile even wider, just to flutter your eyelashes and form a blush that covered your whole face.
"Sorry..This car just rides so--so smooth and.." I yawned, stretching out my arms and grinning. Once again, he laughed and unbuckled his seat-belt, reaching behind the seat to grab a box.
"I got pizza. Thought you might like pizza better than fried chicken." He said, returning back into his spot and looking over at me questionably. I nodded, my mouth already beginning to water. Pizza always was a favorite of mine no doubt about it. We both got out of the car, me smiling as soon as I saw the duck pond and all of the fall colors littering the ground messily, causing it to stand out beautifully. Especially with the little ducks waddling about near the bank.
"Aw, I wish we could have brought some bread." I chuckled, closing the passenger side door behind me as I stepped out. I noticed Alec had a basket with him that I was not aware of before. Drinks, I guess. Maybe a cozy blanket.
"I don't eat the crust. We can just hand them that, instead?" He said, walking towards a picnic table that was beneath a large oak, it's branches cascading over the spot, looking like an arch. I grinned and paced myself over, plopping down and breathing in the fresh air. It felt great outside. The ether was quiet, with light winds and gentle beams of sun. All in all, today was a perfect day to be outdoors. I'm surprised no one else was out.
"So, are you better now?" I asked Alec as he took a seat in front of me, lying the basket down beside him and the pizza box in the center of the table. He raised an eyebrow at me as he did so.
"What do you mean?" He asked, opening the box and pulling out a slice. The pizza was shaped like a heart, oh my. I chuckled and rolled my eyes.
"How cheesy is this." I said, looking up at him to see if he got my stupid pun. He thought for a moment then huffed, laughing. "What I mean is, are you better now that I saved the day?"
"I wish you didn't have to be the one to plan it all out..but, in my defense, I have the best part in it." He smirked smugly, taking a big bite out of the pizza and grinning from ear to ear.
"Alec, what's in the basket?" I asked, forcing the most fake smile known to man. Just to make things more intimidating. Don't judge. He swallowed, winking and looking over at the basket that sat on his side, almost making me want to attack it.
"Oh, this? Nothin'. Just a basket." I narrowed my eyes as he met my gaze, smiling that devilish smile of his. Funny how at one point we hated each-other more than life, then all of the sudden we have become close and actually nice to one another.
"Please, can I see? Please?" I asked, doing my famous puppy dog face that I used a lot when I was younger to get a candy bar or a soda from the store. And if I were lucky, my dad would always get me a chocolate milkshake, however, I liked strawberry best. He told me to suck it up though because he wanted some too and didn't like strawberries. Some would say my childhood was pretty awesome. But in my opinion, it was as average as it gets. I guess it is how others view it. Alec's expression turned hard as I did so, his jaw clenching tightly. He looked away.
"You are too needy, just eat the pizza." He grumbled, taking a bite of his recent piece and chewing slowly. I picked a slice up from the heart shaped pizza and took large bites, tossing my crust to a few ducks that stood in the distance, staring directly at us with begging eyes. I smiled as the smallest one nipped at the others, barricading its little body around it protectively and dragging it along with its yellow beak. Ducks were so feisty to be such small birds. I chuckled as I watched, Alec soon throwing his own to the pile and causing more ducks to swoon over from the pond, quacking vigorously. Before I knew it, the basket was placed right in front of me, a pink bow place on top of it. My eyes wondered across the weaving and I grinned like a kid in a candy store. A.K.A. me at the mall. "Go ahead, you have waited long enough." Alec said, chuckling. I instantly tugged it towards me, being sure to take the bow off as gently as possible so I could place it on Alec's head. He rolled his eyes at me.
"ooh, the suspense." I wiggled, smiling and slowly beginning to open the baskets cages. Only then did I feel my face grow hot and tears begin to well up beneath my eyelids. "A-Alec, you d-didn't." I muttered, covering my face with my palms and crying happily before lifting the pink baby blanket with the small, fragile Clove wrapped inside with a little pink collar that was dangling around her neck and holding her closely to my chest, still crying.
"I bought her from a little girl for you. Told her how much you wanted her and how you named her Clove, and had always dreamed of the name because she was so perfect. Like you. She was young, but smiled and said you deserved to have her because she was special and wanted this moment to be special for me." Clove's eyes fluttered, the crystal blue hue staring up at me. I looked up at Alec and noticed he was leaned over the table a bit, grinning and looking down at her. Like he did the day we went to the mall, he placed his pointer finger on her neck and stroked it down her back carefully. Clove nuzzled against his touch like before. As I was mere to replying, he spoke again. "I planned for this to be a lot more amazing, Avalon, I really did. And I am sorry if it wasn't as great as you may have dreamed of it to be, but I hope you are happy." He said, looking back at me. I lifted my view to his forest green eyes and smiled, leaning up and kissing his lips softly. There was no words to match up to how happy I was, and never will be.
"Thank you, Alec. Thank you for the cheesy pizza and Clove and for giving me a forever in the number of days." Yes, I just said that. He smiled down at me and took a comforting breath, his lips parting just slightly while in the process of doing so. "I can never--" Suddenly, my phone began to ring, making me scowl. I held Clove in one arm and reached for my phone, pulling it out of my cardigan pocket. Olivia?
"Hello?" I answered, my eyes not leaving Alec's. He raised an eyebrow as my eyebrows were etched with confusion.
"Avalon, where are you?" She retorted, her voice shaky and soft, but demanding. I gulped. What could have happened. I lied Clove back in her basket and pressed my pointer finger in my free ear to silence out the quacks of the hungry ducks that were stalking near.
"I'm with Alec. Is everything okay?" I asked, feeling my breath hitch in my throat.
"Give Alec the phone." She croaked. I handed Alec the phone, watching as he checked caller-ID and looked confused as ever.
"Hey, mom." He said as he held his head upright on the picnic table. "Why?" He said, his face flushing pale. I instantly felt light headed. What could have happened, what could of happened, ugh. "Shit. I am on my way." He said, hanging up and handing it back to me. He grabbed the pizza box and slung it in the trash can on the other side of the tree, motioning for me to get Clove and hurry to the car. So that is exactly what I did. My pulse bounded against my chest, and I wanted to ask him what was going on, but I also did not want to be impolite.
As we got to the car, I held Clove in my lap and pet her gently with my fingertips, buckling my seatbelt. Alec didn't bother. He just started the ignition and pulled out as quick as possible, his hand quivering against the steering wheel. I lifted my left arm and placed it on his forearm, frowning. He glanced over at me with an unreadable expression. I did not ask what was wrong. I didn't have the right to.
