I woke up to Ryland screaming in my ear.

"Rosannah! Wake up!" he yelled. I threw a pillow at him.

"Shut up and let me sleep," I groaned.

"You. Need. To. WAKE UP!"

"No I don't! What's so important?" I asked. Then it hit me. School.

"School," Ryland told me. I groaned and rolled out of bed. I smashed my face into the ground as I fell, taking all the blankets with me.

"Ow." I stood up slowly (probably because I only had one leg) and Ryland left my room.

"Wear somethin' nice!" he yelled over his shoulder as he shut my door. I sighed and walked to my closet. A hoodie is nice, right? Probably not. Jeans were okay, I guess. I ripped a pair from my drawer and threw them onto my bed. I looked for a nice and comfortable shirt, but I didn't seem to have any. I decided on just comfortable and ignored what Ryland had said. I found my favourite pink and gray Under-Armour sweatshirt and got dressed, very carefully (again, only one leg). I hopped on my good leg to the door and grabbed my crutches before leaving my room and going to the kitchen.

"Hey, Ro. How'd ya sleep?" Riker asked.

"Not good. This stupid thing makes it impossible to do anything," I said, talking about my plaster. "It sucks."

"I know. But I'm sure you'll have an amazing day at school none the less. What do you want for lunch? Soup, sandwich, candy?" I laughed.

"Candy!"

"Okay, I'll try to sneak some in there," he whispered.

"Okay, cool," I whispered back and walked to the pantry to get cereal... which we didn't have. I forgot we had just come back from tour, and yesterday no one could go out because of the hospital and all that. Ugh. What was I going to eat now?! I decided yoghurt, which we also didn't have. Great, some day this was turning out to be. I just won't have breakfast, I thought to myself. I ran to the foyer and put my shoes on before running back to the kitchen to get my lunch.

"Bye Riker! See ya later!"

"Whoa! Wait up!" Riker called, running after me down the hallway. "You never had breakfast."

"I know, we don't have anything," I explained. "Bye guys!" I yelled before running out the front door, lunch in hand and one pink shoe on my foot, a yellow plaster on the other. And I continued running to the end of my driveway, down the street, and down another street before coming to a stop at the corner of the two streets, within the crowd of a few kids on the footpaths. They quieted their conversations before having them come to a halt.

"That's the new kid that Mr. Williams was talking about."

"Is that her?"

"I didn't know she was on our bus! No kids have moved in in forever!"

"She doesn't live around here!"

They were whispering. I knew this would happen, this was why I didn't want to go to school in the first place. Hey, at least no one has recognized me. I just stared at my shoes, the mismatched hand-me-down pink shoe and yellow plaster. Nothing was turning out the way I wanted it to, but I guess I have had worse. So I waited it out until the bus came. I made my way up the stairs and through the stares and found a seat in the front of the bus.

After an eternity of driving, we arrived at the front of the school. Now the real fun begins.
