Sick

I woke up the next morning, confused because it was still so dark. I looked at the clock. 4:30 am. What?! That means I had fallen asleep only a little while ago, and I was already awake. But at that moment, I knew why I was awake. My stomach was turning and I was in excruciating pain. I knew that my siblings had a very exciting day today and needed their sleep for another big day tomorrow. So I tried to sleep it off. Any way I turned was awful. My side, my back, my stomach, everything. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I couldn't breathe and my head was beginning to hurt as well. I felt really dizzy. It was so scary but I couldn't tell anyone because I knew they'd be mad that I interrupted their sleep that had finally come. I kicked off my blankets and tried to suck it up. But after I felt like I couldn't take it anymore, I realised it had only been a minute. I was in for a looooong night. I changed positions constantly for about twenty minutes and finally found a position that made me feel about .0001% better. And eventually, I drifted into a very painful, not really sleep.

I woke up to a blinding light. I remembered what had happened last night and all the pain came flooding back. It was so much worse than before, and I was so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out. I didn't know what to do, because everyone was asleep. At least I slept for about an hour and a half. I began to cry because it was so terrible. I was in so much pain, more than I had ever been in before, and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I tried to stifle my sobs into my pillow, but I guess it didn't work because Mr. Light Sleeper (aka Ross) came over to me and asked what was wrong. I tried to tell him, but the words couldn't leave my mouth. I cried harder as he tried to guess what was wrong.

"Rocky and you snuck out last night, was it about what you did there?" I shook my head no.

"Um, you left something at home?" No.

"You miss home?" No.

"Are you sick?" I nodded. "That bad that you can't even talk?" I nodded again.

"Riker! Can you come here a minute?" I heard Ross ask after he ran out of my room and into his. And then I heard a quiet "yeah" and shuffling. Riker came into my room and the tiredness on his face was replaced with worry.

"Zanni! What's the matter?" he asked, clearly very worried about me.

"She feels sick, she can't even talk," Ross answered for me. I nodded.

"What hurts babe?" I didn't, and couldn't, answer.

"Your belly?" I nodded. A look of worry came across Riker's face, even more than what was already there. He put a hand on my stomach and pressed it down. "Does it hurt more if I do that?" I shook my head. Riker breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's not her appendix," he informed Ross.

"That's good, but then what is it?" he asked.

"I don't know, I'm not a doctor!" Riker exclaimed.

"Does your head hurt?" Ross asked. I nodded. "Do you feel dizzy?" Another nod. Ross raced out of the room and down the hall before disappearing.

Riker placed his hand on my forehead.

"You have a fever, but it's not too bad. I'll keep an eye on it," he told me. Ross returned with a glass of water and something else in his hand. He handed me what was in his hand. It was two Advils. I took them quickly before plopping my head back down onto the pillow and shutting my eyes.

I woke up to my siblings (and Ell) standing around me. I was lying on the couch with a blanket covering my torso and a wet cloth on my forehead.

"Poor baby!" cooed Rydel. It was about 7:00 in the morning. I realised everyone's plans were ruined for the day.

''Sorry," I whispered.

"For what?" asked Rocky.

"For ruining tour on my first day being here. Now I understand why you wanted to leave me behind."

"You didn't ruin tour, Ro. It wasn't your fault. We all get sick sometimes. We all know it feels awful to be sick, especially in a hotel, so we are staying home today and we are gonna help you. Got it? Now don't feel guilty, it'll make ya feel worse. Lay here and we'll be your servants," Ellington said. I giggled a bit and decided to test my subjects.

"Get me my Peluchie and Petite Ours!" I demanded, sending Ross and Ryland into my room, returning with my teddy bears. They kneeled down and placed them in my lap.

"For you, my lovely lady," Ry said in a dramatic voice. I laughed and accepted the gifts. As much as I hated being sick, I could always count on my siblings to turn my day around, and make me smile.
