"Dinner!" Mom called. Ryland jumped up and I followed him.
"Beat ya!" he sneered as I made my way into the kitchen.
"Nu-uh! I'm gonna beat you to the table!" I ran as fast as I could to the dining room table (where everyone was either already sitting or walking really slowly) and sat down in a seat next to the end of the table and an empty seat. "Told ya," I said as Ryland ran into the room a few seconds after I did.
"It wasn't fair! People were walking and I couldn't just push them over!" I shrugged.
"Too bad."
"Guys, shut up," Riker told us but it was obvious he was laughing, too.
Dinner was quite uneventful. Everyone talked about what direction the band was going in and I wasn't a part of the conversation. Afterwards, I begged Riker to tell us the news.
"Please!" I whined.
"No, Rosannah. I'll tell after the dishes are done."
I sighed. "Ugh, fine. You're no fun." I began to walk back down to the basement.
"Hey, ya know, many hands make light work," Riker said before I got to the basement door.
"Yeah..." I stared at him. He didn't answer. "Your point is?"
"If you help out, it might go faster and the news will come sooner."
"Nah, I can wait." I ran to the basement, jumping the last 3 steps.
"Ready for me to beat you?" Ryland asked as he passed me a controller.
"Psh, you wish. We both know I'm way better at this game." I answered.
"Oh, you're on!" We played over and over again, no one winning more than twice in a row.
As much as I hated to say it, I missed this. I missed it being just Ry and me, playing video games. Just... normal siblings. I missed living just the four of us: Ryland, Mom, Dad, and me, in a house when the band went away. I missed having a normal life with normal people. I was homesick as I was sitting in my own house, one I had lived in for at least 4 years. But I continued to play, knowing that Ryland would tell someone, and that isn't something I would like to hear myself so I'm sure no one else wants to hear it.
"Guys! Can you come in the living room? I have something to tell you all!" Riker called. I smiled and stood up, knowing it was exciting and happy news. Riker wouldn't let me think it was happy news just to tear it out from under me, so it must be great news. I ran up the stairs and into the living room where Riker was standing.
"So, as most of you know, this is my girlfriend Savannah who will be delivering the news." Savannah stood up and walked over to Riker.
"I have some very exciting news and I hope you are all as happy about it as Riker and I are. I'm pregnant." The room erupted into chaos, and Mom was crying. There were lots of questions for Savannah and Riker.
"How far along are you?" Someone asked.
"5 months, which means only 4 more to go!" Savannah cheered, smiling from ear to ear. As much as I tried to be happy for them, my big brother and his girlfriend; his best friend, I just couldn't. It couldn't have come at a worse time. I tried to hold my emotions back but I ended up running upstairs, tears streaming down my face. I ran into my room and sat on my bed. I didn't want to be rude and I was happy for my brother, I was. I just... didn't want everything and everyone to change. So much had already changed, I moved away from Mom and Dad, they came back, I started school for the first time, and now this. I was sick of it all. There were footsteps coming up the stairs. Ryland. I knew the way he walked, the way he hummed to himself as he walked, barely audible. There was a knock on my door a few seconds later.
"Honey, are you alright?" I sniffled.
"No," I replied, quietly.
"Can I come in?"
"Uh-uh," I said shaking my head, even though he couldn't see. Ryland came in anyways.
"What's the matter? Why is my bubbly princess so sad?" Ryland sat down next to me and I leaned my head into his chest.
"I don't want there to be a baby in the family. I don't want to be a forgotten middle kid."
"Hey, first, you will not be a forgotten middle kid. I know it seems like that now, but am I forgotten? Is Ross forgotten? No! He has his own television show, for crying out loud! You are Rosannah Lynch, the most amazing little girl I know. You will never be forgotten. And, second, the baby will be a of of fun. They're so cute! You are going to be a great aunt. I know it."
I smiled a bit.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Ryland asked. I nodded, surprised he would trust me enough. "I hated you." I chuckled. "I'm not joking! You were a cute baby, sure, but I wanted to be the youngest. You took that away from me and I was upset. And, Ross was only 1 when I was born. He couldn't have cared less if h was the youngest or not. I was the first person to not accept a Lynch baby. Everyone was upset with me, and I was upset with everyone else. But, do you know how much I love you know? And just think, maybe someday, you can be having this very conversation with baby Latimer-Lynch, and ou will love that baby as much as I love you. Okay?"
"Yeah."
"You good now?"
I took a deep breath. "Yeah." And with all that fear washed away, there was only happiness left. I elt warm and fuzzy. It was going to be a long 4 months.
A/N
Guys! I've been in and out of hospital with physical therapy and also... bum badda bum! My brother's girlfriend just had her first baby! Bam, inspiration for these 2 chapters. A little boy, Alexander Bruno Not-Telling-You-My-Last-Name. He's so cute! I have an idea for the name of th Lynch-Latimer Baby, but if you have any ideas, please tell me! I might like yours better. I also have an idea for the gender but again, I will go with the majority. And if you want like twins or trinkets or something that too. Thanks for reading! Au revoir!
