We sit on the floor in the Zeus cabin. Fire sleeps in my room in the main house. I’m teaching Thalia and Caleb in the Ancient Language. Luckily they both are learning really fast. I teach them some different words such as kveykva, which means lightning, and deloi, which means earth.

Now for the hardest part. The magical energy. “Try to think that the energy lies in a bubble deep in your mind.” I tell them. They both sit with closed eyes and concentrated face. “When you find the bubble, then try to move the energy from the bubble to your hand.” Thalia nods a little. I’m not even sure Caleb heard me. Thalia gets even more focused. Then she opens her eyes. “It won’t work…”

“You just need to practice. You are the daughter of Zeus! Of course you can do it.” She looks at me. Suddenly Caleb opens his eyes. “Flame, this won’t work. I can’t see anything but black…” I sigh. “I can help you more, but I don’t think you gonna like it…” “How?” They ask at the same time. “I can… uhm… ‘Walk’ into to your minds and help you find your energy bubble. But that means I need to be inside your head. Like… I can see al of your memories and so… Of course I won’t try to look at your memories, but if you think of something I can hear it… Or see it.”

I look at them. Thalia is thinking really hard, but Caleb just looks at me with big eyes. “Can every magician do that?” “No, only the ones who have learned to control their minds. Often it’s only people from Alagaësia who know how to do it. My father came from Alagaësia, so he teaches me it. I’m not that well but… I’ll give it a try. If you want…” I add.

Caleb nods. Thalia isn’t sure yet. “Thalia, what about I’ll do it on Caleb first, then you can say if you want to do it?” I ask her. “Okay.” She says. I close my eyes and let my mind travel over to Caleb’s. I hear him moving a little when our minds touch each other.

Caleb’s mind is a confusing place. If you imagine an enormous, dark, roundish room full of moving posters overlapping each other, you will have a quite good picture of what Caleb’s mind looks like. All over are there thoughts. And many of them are about me! I look around and see myself in different ages and places.

And I’m always in the middle of the thought. Flame, your mission! I remind myself. The magic bubble. Where is it? There is a dark corner in the other end of his mind. I walk over there. There is a cordoned off room with big lock on. Damn it!

“Caleb?” I say with my thought-voice. He’s thoughts react on it with confusing. “Let your hole mind be open. Take some deep breaths.” I tell him. The lock on the corned off room doesn’t change. “Caleb, this is maybe going to hurt…” I say. A thought came up on the wall. ‘Okay.’ It says. I reach up after the lock and pull it.

Nothing. I pull it harder. It won’t move a millimeter… I try with some magic. Still nothing. I have to use a key. And the only one who has the key is the one who locked the room… Who would lock Caleb’s magic inside a little room so he can’t use it? Only one person would do that… Clarissa.

I open my eyes again. “Did you find anything, Flame?” Thalia asks. “Yes and no. I know where his magic powers are, but they are locked inside a room…” “So, it worked?” “Yes.” “Can you do it on me? I want to try too!” Thalia sounds like a little child. “Okay, but I need to tell Caleb something…” I say looking over on him. He is still sitting with closed eyes.

“Caleb?” He’s shaking all over his body. “Caleb? Caleb!” I shake him. He opens his eyes and looks at he. “What… What happened?” I ask him. “I… I heard what your conclusion was… inside my head… My mom…” His voice died out and he droop on the floor. “Caleb? Caleb!” I’m panicking and try to shake him awake. “Flame! Stop!” Thalia tries to pull me away from Caleb. I begin to cry. It’s weird, last time I cried was then Alice died for 10 years ago. “I’ll get Chiron.” Thalia says and leaves.

Two minutes later Thalia comes back with Chiron. “Flame, can you explain to me what happened?” Chiron says. I dry my eyes in my sleeve and nod. “It… I tried to help him find his magical center, but it’s locked inside a room in his mind, and I couldn’t open it. So I began to think about who would lock his magic in and my conclusion was his mother, Clarisse.

So I leaved his mind to tell him, but he already heard it when I was inside… Then he fainted…” “What were you doing in his mind?” “I was looking for his magical center…” “His magical center? What’s that?” I can’t believe my ears. Chiron doesn’t know about the magical center? I’m confused… “You don’t know?” He shakes his head, looking quite suspicious.

“That’s… uhm… It’s the center for your magic. Some magic can be held another place, like their demigod-powers…” I point at Thalia and Caleb. “… But most magic lies in a little ‘bubble’ where you can take some energy from and then you can make the most incredible spells in the Worlds… It’s the best way I can describe it…”

“Flame, I think we must have a longer talk about that…” Chiron says. “Thalia, get Groover and tell him to take care of Caleb. Then meet us in the main house.” Chiron tells her “Oh, and tell the other cabin leaders they shall come too…” Thalia nods and leaves again. Flame, you come with me.” I nod and follow him out of the door.

“One thing I need to know is… Why would you find this magical center?” Chiron asks me while we walk to the main house. The Night is almost black, and the lanterns around in the camp shine a bright light. “I told Thalia and Caleb about the Ancient language, and they wanted to–“ “The Ancient Language?” Chiron interrupts me. “Yes, the Ancient Language is a magical language that uses one-word magic.

I thought that it might be a person who knew a really powerful word from the Ancient Language who can stop the demons…” “That sounds pretty interesting… But don’t mention were you learned it from to the others…” “Why?” I can’t understand why it’s so important that the others doesn’t know about that… “Because there would be chaos then. Only two of the other demigods know about the Worlds. Thalia and Annabeth.” “Alright…” We’ve reached the main house and walk inside.

10 minutes later the last cabin leader arrives. “Great. Now we’re all here.” Chiron starts. “Why are we here? And why is she with? She doesn’t have anything to do with us.” Drew exclaims. “Drew!” Chiron says angrily. “That’s not how we talk to our guests. And Flame is the reason we’re here. She has found out that a huge darkness is sinking over our world.” Chiron stares directly into Drew's eyes.

"Flame, what about starting with the Oracle's prediction?" "Okay... The prediction sounds like this: The Hunters in black you must call, or else the world will fall. The darkness is sinking over the world, and only one person can say the word. The demons are running free and wild. The only one who can stop them is the child." My mouth says the prediction without thinking. There's silent in a moment. Suddenly everyone is talking at the same time. "Who are the Hunters in black?" "Which word?" "How can one word stop the darkness?" "Demons run?" "Which child?"

"SILENCE!!!" Chiron yells out in the room. Everyone shouts their mouth and looks down in the table. "The hunters in black are the Shadowhunters. And Flame is going to tell you about the Ancient Language. Flame, go on." Chiron nods to me. Everyone's eyes focus on me. "Uhm, the Ancient Language is also known as the grandfather to all kinds of spells. It’s a kind of one-word magic, which means you just have to add some magic to an Ancient word.”

I paused and look around to see if the others understand me. Some of them, especially the guy from Hermes’, look really confused. Others, like Annabeth and Percy, nod thoughtfully. “So with this language you can just say one word and the darkness will disappear?” Annabeth asked. “Uhm, not exactly. You need a special word and a lot of great powers. Only a very few can make a spell that big.” I explain, trying hard not to talk over like Chiron said.
