Chapter 76~ I'm Fine Pt. 1

Alfred tussled my hair as I stuffed a pancake in my mouth. His strong hand brought comfort to me. In his other hand was a carton of caffeinated drinks and an abundance of shopping bags that rested on his arm. There were four cups on the carton, each one had a green logo with a mermaid on the side.

"So, what's it like traveling the world?" He asked, setting the carton down on the table.

"Awesome b-but tiresome," I sighed.

"I'm glad you're back home though," Mattie smiled to me.

"Mattie! Hug me!" Alfred managed to set the plastic bags down before tackling him.

"Guess I have no choice," he smiled contently at Alfred's nature.

"Are you coming to the party? You're totally coming to the party," he spoke way too fast when they parted.

"Of course I'm coming. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

"I'm c-coming too!" I waved my hand in the air to catch his attention.

"Really?! Omg, you're going to look so adorable! Who or what are you coming as?"

"I... don't know yet..." I was defeated.

"I may have an idea," Daddy put in, "I'll tell you later."

Alfred had a burst of excitement, "Oh! I went to Starbucks, if anyone wants some."

Papa had taken a cup ages ago and Mattie headed straight for the one that had caramel shavings on top. Daddy refused, saying that tea is the only caffeine that he needs. I tried to swiftly take the one that had nutmeg shavings on the whipped topping. However...

"I don't think that you should have that much caffeine. That's a lot of sugar for a little body like yours," Alfred placed the drinks in the fridge before taking the one that I wanted.

"B-But, can I a-at least have s-some of it?" I looked to him with pleading eyes.

He was caught in my trap, unable to escape my adorableness.

"Well... no... I shouldn't..." I kept staring at him as he contemplated his life decisions, "Don't give me that look... oh, alright! We can share! Just stop guilt tripping me!"

"Yes~" I giggled as he poked a straw into the cup.

"It's a S'mores frappuccino, one of my favorites," he commented as the taste of gram crackers and chocolate syrup swirled into my senses.

The chill from the cup spread a bubbly sensation through my veins and down my spine. I paused my caffeine session to indulge in the cool high I was receiving. My breathing slowed, my face felt oddly warm, my hair succumbed to a pure color.

However, it didn't last long. Mattie threw my hood over my head. All the warmth from my hoodie and his hand caused my body to withdraw the cool high. That's when Alfred took the cup away from me and started drinking from my straw.

"What? We're family," he commented on my staring.

"Do you have all of the supplies?" I overheard their conversation from the back door.

"Of course I do! I didn't just go to Starbucks and forget the most important part!"

Mattie was upstairs unpacking and Papa was on the couch brushing my hair. I placed myself comfortably in his lap as the brush ran down the valleys of my Earthy colored hair. He hummed a soft tune as he did so, bring me peace.
