Cameron-
I paced in the waiting room, my fists clenching and unclenching at my sides. I couldn’t understand why she would just pass out like that. Her last words kept replaying and replaying inside my head I love you, I love you, I love you over and over again. It made me physically sick, I sat down and my phone rang. “Hello?” I answered
“Cameron, it’s Stacey. I’m just pulling into the car park, I’ll be in 2 minutes.”
“Alright, Stace I’ll be waiting.”
“Thanks, Bye”
“Bye” I hung up and waited. A doctor approached me with a solemn look on his face “Mister Chase?” he asked and I nodded “I’m very sorry sir but when she was admitted she was too far gone, we couldn’t save her.” He placed a hand on my shoulder and I brushed it off cold-heartedly. I stood up and leant against the door frame, slamming my fist into the concrete wall blood spreading across my knuckles.
“Cameron?” a melodious voice said from behind me, I turned to find Stacey standing there with concerned eyes. I wrapped my arms around her and let sobs rack my body.
“She’s dead Stace, My mother is dead!” I stammered in between sobs
“Oh, Cameron, I’m so sorry! I’m so, so sorry!” she said tears welling up in her own eyes
“Thank you Stacey, Thank you for caring so much about me”
“My pleasure,” She said pulling away to stare me in the eye “Are you okay?” She asked
“No,” I answered truthfully “My life is never going to be the same again.”
Stacey
Several hours past and I just sat in the hospital waiting bay, Cameron sat beside me not moving, it didn’t even look like he was breathing. I couldn’t blame him, losing his mother was a massive blow. He needed to have some time alone, I stood I up and decided to leave. “I’m gonna go Cam, I’m really tired…,” He didn’t answer , I placed a hand on his shoulder “Are you alright? Do you want me to drive you home?” I asked
“I’ll catch a bus” he said standing up and walking towards the exit.
“At 2 o’clock in the morning, ah-no. I’ll drive you home.” I offered again
“Okay, but only if you let me drive” he answered sternly
“It’s my dad’s car, I’m not sure”
“Fine, I’ll walk home” he murmured as he turned away
I gave in “Alright, Alright you drive” he turned and I tossed him the keys. We walked out the hospital doors and into the un-sterile, night air. I walked in front of him, leading him to the car, which was conveniently on the other side of the parking lot so we had lots of awkward nothingness in-between the long walk. When we finally arrived, he pushed me against the passenger door the length of his body pinned me there and he leaned in real close, our lips just a movement away,
“Thank you, Stacey” his tone low and seductive
“For what?” I asked
“For coming here tonight. For letting me keep you here as a prisoner. For lending me your dad’s car. For everything you’ve done for me in the last day and a half I’ve known you.”
“It’s fine Cameron, I don--” I was cut off by his lips crushing mine. He’d caught me totally off guard but I didn’t care, I pressed my body up against his pushing my hands up his chest and locking them around his neck. I moaned and opened my mouth letting his tongue intertwine with mine, we kissed like this for many minutes before he broke away from me panting. He leant in and rested his forehead on mine, “Why’d you stop?” I asked
“Because I intend to return you to your parents in a mostly innocent state”
“Well…Um” I stuttered blown away by his words
“Settle down, Stace I’m just messing with you.” He explained
“Alright,” I rubbed my hands over my arms “Can we get in the car now, I’m cold”
“Sure” he responded, his hand swiftly reaching behind me to open the car door. I climbed inside and he shut the door behind me. I reached over and my hand found the heater, I turned it up to maximum heat and settled down into the soft leather seats. It wasn’t long before Cameron joined me, he put the keys into the ignition and sped off.
We drove silently until his phone rang, because he was driving and I valued my life, I took the phone and answered it, “Hi , Cameron’s phone” I said politely
“Put Cameron on the phone right now!” A male voice screamed down the telephone line.
“I’m sorry, may I ask whose calling?” I questioned calmly
“It’s Cameron’s father! Now put him on the phone!” the male voice said again in harsher tones
“I’m sorry, sir but Camerons driving, I’ll get him to call you back?” I answered
“Or how about you PUT HIM ON THE DAMN PHONE!” Cameron’s father yelled
“Fine!,” I bellowed I turned to Cameron “Pull Over, Now!” He complied and I handed him the phone.
“Hello?” he said calmly
“Why in Hell didn’t you tell me your mother was dead!? At 2 o’clock in the morning I get a call from a friggin’ doctor saying that my wife’s heart gave out!” he was screaming so loud that I could hear him as clear as day.
“I’m sorry Dad, but I just experienced my mother’s death!,” his voice choked “So I’m sorry if I didn’t come screaming down the phone to my dear Daddy!” he snapped hanging up the phone and tossing it into the cup holder. I shifted uncomfortably and he placed a hand on my knee,
“I’m sorry, Stace.” He apologised
“No, don’t be! It’s fine… I understand,” I looked up at his beautiful eyes “Hey, wait where are you going to sleep tonight? You can’t sleep at your house because your father will be demanding your head and you can’t rent a hotel room because you’ve obviously forgotten your wallet,” I pointed to his flat pockets “Do you want to sleep at mine?”
He raised one eyebrow “Are your parents going to be alright with that?”
“I guess so,” I shrugged “Why wouldn’t they be”
He laughed “Boy, Girl, teenager, together, in house, at night”
“They trust me” I answered
“Well alright, as long as you think its ok” he agreed then re focused his attention to the road in front of us.
