Cameron-

Alright just chill, bro chill! Your mum is dead, your father wants to rip you to smithereens and you’ve just spent the night at your super-hot best friend’s house. My breathing quickened as I replayed the last nights drama in my head.

First, my mother was dead. I’m still not sure exactly what happened but it did and I my life was totally over.

Second, my own father wants to kill me. My phone buzzed crazily all night with text messages and missed calls from my dad. I’m sure he’d like to put me six foot under too.

And third, I was laying on the floor of a girls bedroom who I hardly knew. We’d snuck through at about 3 o’clock and crashed almost instantly. This’ll be fun to explain to some hot chicks parents who I’ve never even met I thought. I slowly pushed myself up, careful not to wake the girl that slept in the bed beside me. I walked as silently as I could over to the window where I had just thrown my shirt. I retrieved it, put it on then made my way over to the door, slipping on one of her heels on the way over and landing with a thud on the hard wood flooring.

She jolted up like she had just been burnt by a hot poker, her bright, aqua night shirt hung loosely around her skinny shoulders, “God, Cameron!,” She sighed and put her hand over her chest “You almost scared me to death!” she climbed out of bed to assist me on regaining my footing.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you” I whispered

“Oh, you didn’t just wake me,” she said “I think the whole of China has just been awoken by the sound of your manliness falling to the ground after slipping on my,” she gasped and reached down to pick up her now mangled, hot pink shoe “my new heels!” she whined and tossed it to the side. “You hungry?” she asked as she opened the door to the hallway.

“Always!” I shouted, turning to face me she placed one finger on her lips and shut the door again,

“Shhh! You might wake my parents” she whispered, but then her expressions turn to a no-nonsense face “Now, my parents like nerdy, bookworms who are clumsy and lack any social status. And since you have none of those qualities” she glanced over my figure “You’ll be the overly nice, suck-up. Okay?” she cautioned

“Yes, ma’am!” I teased and she opened the door once more and we made our way down the hallway. Both her parents sat at the table, her mother glanced up at her daughter then her expression fell as her eyes landed on me. She dropped her fork onto the plate with a clatter and her father, whose face had been hidden behind a newspaper quickly lowered it to survey his most shocked wife

“Margaret, what’s wrong?” he asked before he turned to Cameron who was looking quite upset with himself, “Um, Stacey, Darling who may I ask is this?” he questioned pointing to Cameron,

“This is the friend whose mother was in hospital” she explained

He tensed even more “And why, Darling, is he in our house at 6 o’clock in the morning?”

“He needed a place to stay, Daddy,” Stacey smiled lying the charm on thick “I thought it would be okay…” she let her sentence trail off.

“Good Morning, Mister Sun,” I said politely extending my hand to her fathers, he shook it firmly.

“Hello, um…” he greeted

“Cameron, Sir, Cameron Chase” I answered

“Alright, Cameron… Why was your mother in hospital?” her father asked placing his newspaper on the table. I felt the tears spring to my eyes but I forced them away.

“Oh…um…My mother was admitted after I found her on the couch,” I swallowed “without a pulse.” Her mother clasped her hand over her mouth in shock

“Is she alright?” Margaret asked

“No…she…she, um,” I stuttered “they couldn’t revive her” I sniffed up my tears and turned to look into Stacey’s concerned eyes,

“Are you hungry?” Stacey’s mother finally asked

“Very” I answered truthfully, only now I realised how hungry I really was. My stomach felt like it was tied in knots, I hadn’t eaten since…since I ate that pizza at home. That was the last time I saw my mother alive, her swift voice floating around the room like a soft breeze…

“Cameron?” my thoughts disrupted by Stacey’s voice

“Yeah?” I answered not aware of why she had called my name

“Did you hear my mother?” she asked, her eyebrows raised

“Um, no… Sorry Mrs Sun?”

“Would you like eggs, waffles, pancakes, cereal? What would you like?”

“Um, I’m fine with anything”

“Well pick from anything!” she smiled sweetly

“I’ll have some eggs please, Mrs Sun” I smiled back. She started cooking and Stacey shuttled me over to a place at the end of the dining room table. She sat beside me and her father got up out of his own seat at the other end of the table,

“Good bye, Sweet.” He said softly before he bent to kiss his daughter on the cheek, “I gotta go to work but I will see you tonight.”

“Alright, Daddy. I love you” she answered giving him a hug

He turned to me “It was nice to meet you, Cameron” he admitted as he extended his hand, I firmly shook it.

“Also you, sir” I said politely releasing his hand, her mother placed the steaming plate of hot eggs and toast in front of me “Thank you, Mrs Sun”

“Please call me Margaret” she said as she returned to the kitchen. Stacey turned to me and whispered into my ear

“I think they like you”

“I’m glad”
