Stacey-
I turned to Jesse, after Cameron had disappeared behind the wall, he was standing there looking at his toes kicking the air with his black, ratty sneakers. Finally after a minute of silence he returned his eyes to mine, “Stacey, what are you doing?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why are you here with him after you told me that he was the reason you were crying?”
“He apologised to me…”
“And that makes it all better doesn’t it!” he huffed as he slid down the wall and sat on the ground. I sat down beside him, fidgeting with my hands. “Stacey, I don’t want you to be with him,” he edged
“Why not, Jesse?” I questioned most confused by the situation
“Because, well because… I like you, Stacey”
“I know… I like you too Jesse, we’ve been frie-“
“No Stacey, not like that,” I was starting to get nervous “I really like you… Stacey I want to be your boyfriend” he tensed waiting for my answer
“Oh, Jesse… I-I think of you as, as my brother…”
“I never wanted to be your brother, Stacey”
“Jesse I’m sorry, I don’t think about you in that w—“I was interrupted by him pushing his lips to mine. I failed my fists against his chest but he held me there against him with an iron grip. I pursed my lips together, denying his tongue entry to my mouth. He held me there for what seemed like hours before he finally let me go, a smug grin plastered across his face. I couldn’t help it I slapped him across the cheek. He looked stunned for a minute then returned to his smile,
“WHAT THE HELL JESSE?!” I yelled
“Stacey, I’m crazy about you! Don’t you get that?! I have been since forever, but you’ve written me off as ‘the best friend’ and thought nothing else about it…” He was on the verge of crying, as I was myself,
“Jesse, I-I-I can’t,” I sniffed “I don’t think of you like that”
“Why not? We’re great together, Stace!” He was very frustrated
“No we’re not, Jesse! We are best friends… Nothing more!”
“You just won’t accept it, will you? You have always been mine, You belong to me!” I was stunned by his choice of words, I belonged to him? I didn’t belong to ANYONE!
“Jesse I don’t belong to you, I belong to myself and no one else.”
“No, your mine!” He grabbed me by the shoulders, but before he pressed his lips to mine again I punched him in the gut, he doubled over and clutched his mid-section. I got up and started running down the hall, “DON’T FIGHT IT, STACEY!,” he yelled after me “IT’S MEANT TO BE” I started crying at his words, but I didn’t look back. Out of the corner of my eye I swear I saw Cameron leaning against the corridor frame, fists clenching and un-clenching at his sides. He was watching Jesse with startling precision and I hoped to God he wouldn’t go over there and beat the crap out of Jess… But in some ways I wish he would.
Class was Hell! I felt Jesse’s eyes boring into my back the whole lesson, I have never felt so happy in my life to hear the bell go. I rushed to my locker, so that Jesse wouldn’t follow me when I realised that I didn’t have any way to get home. I usually rode home with Jesse in his old beat up car, but since he was trying to get me to make out with him the middle of the hall way I decided that wasn’t the best idea.
Cameron suddenly appeared at his locker while I was lost in thought, he looked at me his face full of anger and hate. It was evident that he wasn’t going to talk so I struck up the conversation, “Hey, Cam you alright?”
“Fine,” he huffed “are you?” he asked glancing at my face, taking in my swollen eyes and puffy cheeks
“I’ve been better,” I admitted
“Why, what happened.” He was playing the dumb card, trying to make sure that I didn’t see him watching us.
“Oh, nothing” I wasn’t letting him on either.
“Hey, how are you getting home?”
“I don’t know, I’ll probably walk…”
“I’ll keep you company”
“What about your bi—“ I remembered the details of the night before, he rode in the ambulance to the hospital and my mother drove him this morning, he didn’t have his motorcycle. “Right, no bike.”
“Yeah,” he sighed “Oh I almost forgot, the principal wants to see you first thing tomorrow morning about Raquel’s nose” Oh great! I’d been so caught up in Jesse’s shit that I hadn’t thought a Raquel… I was in SO much trouble!
