Chapter 25

Stacey-

Ouch that really hurt Ow!

I opened my eyes groggily and stared around the sterile hospital room. Wait. Hospital Room?  Why was I in hospital?

What happened last night?

I was out on a date with Cameron; we went to see the new Twilight movie that I had convinced him was good. When it finished we decided to walk home rather than catch a cab or ask my parents to come get us. Then…Then…erm. What happened next? Erm…the car. Yes. The car, Jesse’s car. Jesse pulled up beside us and Jesse…he…he…I don’t know. I can’t remember…

“Stacey?” A voice broke into my conscience. I suddenly remembered where I was, in the hospital room. But I had no recollection on how I got there, “Stacey, please.”

“Wha-what happened?” I answered softly, my eye lids fluttering

“Oh, thank God!” Cameron was towering above me

“Cam!” I yelped. As I sat up to hug him a sharp pain zipped through my spine “Ouch!” I cried

“What?” he asked

“My back. It hurts real bad” I took in his concerned face “What happened?”

“You-you don’t remember?” he managed to choke out

“No. What happened, Cameron?” I asked again

“I shouldn’t of let him live” he mumbled “Jesse he chucked you against a wall and you got knocked out.” His eyes misted over “I thought I’d lost you” violent sobs began to rack his body.

“Shh, Cam” I grabbed his face and pulled it to my lap, stroking his hair tenderly “I’m okay now. Everything is going to be okay, I promise”

“I love you, Stacey” he could barely get the words out because he was sobbing so hard

“I love you too, Cameron.  More than you will ever know” I whispered leaning down to kiss his ear. The pain shot through me again “Ow!”

“I’ll have the doctor come in and have a look at you” he stated getting up, wiping his cheeks in the process

“Okay” I answered simply

He kissed my hand and walked out the door. I took in my surroundings again, my eyes landing on another hospital bed. In it was situated a small girl maybe 5 or 6, she looked totally normal but from where she was lying I was guessing she wasn’t

“Hello, what’s your name?” I asked

She looked at me and smiled “I’m Clara. Who are you?”

“I’m Stacey, how are you, Clara?”

“Very sick, Mummy said I could be in here for a couple of months. She said I have Dancer”

“Oh, I’m sorry… what is ‘Dancer’” I questioned slightly confused

“You know, when you have this one thing in your body that infects all these other things and you get really sick” she explained. I gasped this beautiful young girl had Cancer. She was not even 10 and she was sure to die
