Kai’s POV:
This feeling… it was weird… different. As if I wasn’t alive, yet not dead. I slowly opened my eyes to reveal a beautiful, empty beach. I walked towards the center and sat down. I watched as the wave’s crash against the shore, but I didn’t feel any wind which was a bit odd. I glanced around after a while and saw two figures a little distance away. I got up and walked towards them. As I got closer, I noticed it was Maddi and Brittany fighting.
“Hey! Leave her alone!” I yelled as Brittany tackled Maddi to the ground and held her down, but my voice went unheard. I tried to run closer to help, but the sand seemed to slow me down. “Get away from her!” I yelled again, but this time I couldn’t even hear myself.
I widened my eyes and ran faster when I saw a silver knife be pulled out of Brittany’s pocket. I leaped forward only to go through both of them. What the hell? I turned back around just as Brittany plunged the knife deep in Maddi’s chest. I scrambled to my feet and went to her side.
I went to pick up her hand, being able to touch her this time. I looked back to yell at Brittany, but she had disappeared. Good riddance. My gaze went back to Maddi as her eyes barely opened.
“Maddi! Maddi, come back to me.” I felt my cheeks become wet as her gorgeous smile appeared on her face. “Come back to me Maddi…” I felt the wind brush against my skin, sending some of my hair in my face. Wait… I can feel the wind now? And my tears? And I can touch her? It was like all my senses were coming back to me.
“No Kai, come back to me. Come back to me Kai.” Maddi’s voice echoed through the inside of my head. It sounded more distant than right in front of me. I rubbed my eyes for a second, but when I opened them again Maddi was gone. I looked around and noticed that I wasn’t on a beach anymore. “Kai, come back. Please come back.” I kept hearing her voice, but couldn’t see her.
Suddenly, I felt myself being forcibly shaken. I stood up but realized my feet were gone. My legs slowly started to vanish, putting pain in its place. Next to go was my arms, torso, and upper body. I closed my eyes, the pain becoming unbearable. I wanted to scream, but my lips, nose, and ears had been removed. I only had my eyes. Was I dying?
“Please Kai. Come back to me. I need you. Don’t leave me.” I heard Maddi’s voice again, but I couldn’t help but think that it was closer than earlier.
“Maddi?” Her name passed my lips as they reappeared on my face.
“Yes Kai… Come back to me.” I realized that my ears were back too. I took a deep breath, feeling my chest move up and down and the smell of vanilla filled my nose. I felt my hand twitch and looked down to see my legs and feet were reattached. I groaned as most the pain subsided, except for a minor headache and some pain on my side. I moved my hand and clutched what felt like sheets in my right hand and what felt like another hand in the other.
“Kai?...” I hesitantly opened my eyes and for a second regretted it because of the bright light that was surrounding most of my vision, but the view of Maddi’s two hazel orbs staring right at me made me glad I did.
“Maddi…” I reached my hand that wasn’t holding hers and caressed her cheek. I leaned closer to her, I felt a stab of pain shoot through my right side. “Ughh… what is that pain?” I groaned.
“Brittany shot you…” She said sadly, looking down.
“Where is she?” I asked.
