Things They Lost
3 weeks earlier...
"I can't believe it's been three years since we lost you, Nat. You shouldn't be dead! You should be here, living your life the way you want to! You should be here with me! Why?! Why did he have to kill you?! You where seventeen, seventeen darn it! We could've been happy together! I loved you and he took you away from me!"
Danika placed artificial blue flowers on her deceased friend/crush's grave, tears running down her cheeks. Natalie Worth was her angel, the one person who would lead her through the darkness.
And now she was gone. She was dead. Laid to rest peacefully amongst other people who had lost their lives.
"It still hurts..." Danika said, looking at the gravestone with mournful eyes. "she was the first person i'd ever fallen in love with. And I never got the chance to confess my feelings."
"I know, sweetheart, I know." Tadashi nodded, his voice filled with comfort. "I miss her too. I wasn't there when she..." he held back a sob, he didn't want to shed any tears, he knew Natalie wouldn't have wanted that. "when she needed me. I could have saved her. She doesn't deserve to be...to be..."
He couldn't hold the tears back anymore. He almost fell to his knees, but Danika caught him just in time and brought him into a hug.
"Don't say that, man; there was nothing you could've done. Natalie was born a hero and she died a hero, I guess she was just marked for death."
'Marked? Marked for death? Is there honestly such a thing as being marked for death?'
The answer?
No one could say for definite.
