Mistakes Happen
Closing the door behind her, Evie breathed in and then out, relieved she was home. Her home was her place of safety, a sanctuary that only she could ownership of, a place that no one could ever take away from her. It was the only thing she had left of her grandparents, and she wasn't going to spoil it.
"Maybe i'll feel more comfortable when I start getting to know people better, but for now I don't think being around large groups is for me. Then again, i've always been the kind of person to keep to myself- at least, until recently. I need some tea."
Brewing some key in the floral printed kettle, Evie wanted until she heard the familiar whistling sound and (when letting the water inside cool) poured it into a cup, blowing slightly before bringing it to her lips and taking a sip.
'Perfect'.
Her back leaned slightly against the counter, the sweet fragrance of tea stimulated her senses, calming her nerves and bringing her into a place of tranquility, making an unbreakable peace with both her mind and body. The sun had set in San Fransokyo, and Evie walked towards the window to watch the lights and moving cars, it was such an unusual sight for her eyes, a sight she had only ever seen in movies or her own dreams (if she even had them anymore).
"Beautiful city, isn't it?" Vonnie said, taking on her physical form (an almost younger looking, feminine version of Evie herself). "You said it yourself, you were gonna make your grandparents proud. I think they'd be proud of you right about now, i'd know you'd do anything to have them back."
"I would," Evie nodded, but shaking her head lightly afterwards. "but the past is in the past, and I have to move forward. That's what they'd want for me, to always be happy no matter what. It's not gonna be easy, but hey, i'm gonna try."
"That's the spirit." Vonnie smiled, her body illuminating with light. She was only a fragment of Evie's imagination (at least that's what others would say), but to Evie, she was real. So real that she could reach out and hold her hand if she wanted to, hug her or even rest her head against her shoulder. It was as real as anything could get in the world of reality. "See? You've just gotta believe in yourself a little more, you can show your new peers that you're not a bad person."
"But i've made bad choices in my life. Though, that doesn't define me as a person. Everyone makes mistakes, right?" Evie sipped the tea once more, the nightlife becoming so much more fascinating towards her. If it wasn't too cold, she would have sat outside on the wooden rocking chair with her tea and watch the night for herself.
"We all do at some point, Yvonne. Though not many people are willing to make up for what they've done, you have a special case on your hands. You're trying to move forward, and that's a big step to take considering what you've been through. But I have no doubt in my mind that you're going to help make the world a much better place, because I have faith in you. That's what i'm here for, to guide you and help you make the right choice."
Evie hummed, nodding in understanding at what Vonnie meant. Swiveling the tear in her cup gently, the warm of it made her hands grow peaky ever so slightly.
"You best get some sleep, tomorrow's gonna be another busy day. Hey, I forgot to mention, I heard some people talking about a really nice café just a few streets down from here, why don't we go check it out sometime? I think it'd be fun. You might even get to meet some people."
"That'd be lovely." Evie agreed, thinking some time to herself would be a good idea. Everyone needed free time whenever they didn't have school or work, right?
"Gosh, is that the time already?" Evie asked herself, noticing the hour on the clock that hung on the wall. To some, it may have been classed as an early night to some, but Evie was fond of a good night's sleep. Yawning, she realised just how tired she really was.
