Going In For The Kill
Mad Hatter poured the dressing on the salad, mixing it in before sitting down to eat it. A healthy meal meant a healthy mind, not that her mind was one hundred percent to begin with. Albert Einstein's definition of insanity made it quite clear.
"Insanity is doing something over and over again expecting a different result each time."
That defined her well enough, didn't it? Mad Hatter would receive her target, take them out and then take the money. It was all about the money, everything was about the money.
When her phone started vibrating on the table, she groaned and put the fork in her hand down, sliding the answer button on the touch screen.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Mad. How's the assignment going? Have you got him yet?"
It was Mad Hatter's fellow assassin, Blue Caterpillar. She knew his real name and he knew hers, but they sometimes stayed professional even when talking to each other in a casual conversation about work. Heck, White Rabbit was no exception either- he was one of the top male assassins in her little friendship group. Each assassin had aliases of character's from Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (or Alice in Wonderland as it was now more commonly known as). They all had their names for a reason, Mad Hatter's was quite simple. She was as mad as a hatter, especially when she killed.
"No, I haven't got him yet." she lied, none of her colleagues knew of her true intentions, they all thought she was away on business as usual. "I'm sort of doing the whole 'get to trust him' thing and then i'll put my gun right between his eyes."
"Huh, that's not usually your style." Blue Caterpillar said, the sound of him lighting a cigar was obvious. "Never hurts to try something new, I guess. So go on, how's San Fransokyo? Come on, you've gotta tell me. Is it always bright at night like everyone says it is?"
Mad Hatter sighed, chuckling. She knew how much Blue Caterpillar wanted to see San Fransokyo for himself, he'd always told her how he had wanted to start a new life there after he had packed the killing gig up. He was only doing the job for his wife and unborn child, (not that they knew) he wasn't suitable to any other kind of work due to his former military background and shooting a gun and pointing a rifle just happened to be within his forte. If anything, Mad Hatter pitied him and hoped that for his sake, his dream would come true.
"Yeah, yeah, it's great. I'll send you some pictures if that'll make you feel better. So how's the wife? She and the baby doing well?"
"Just had the scan as a matter of fact. Baby's as healthy as can be, and my wife's doing okay. I don't know if it'll turn out to be true, but I get the feeling they're gonna be a daddy's girl or boy."
"If they're your kid," Mad Hatter said, her stomach grumbling at the sight of the food in the bowl. She was hungry. "then I think they'll more than definitely take after you. I don't mean to tell you how to do your job as a parent, it's not like I have kids of my own anyway, but you're not gonna introduce them to what you do, are you?"
"No. Absolutely not. I'm not having my son or daughter be like me, that's not happening. Hopefully by the time the kid's born i'll have quit this job."
Mad Hatter went quiet, turning in her seat to face the large window. Was she even doing the right thing by getting rid of the one person that caused her pain? Was it even justified? Of course it was, it had to be! People who hurt others deserved to be punished, that was what her mentors had taught her on her first assignment. Blue Caterpillar's way of thinking...it made her think of who she used to be. He was married, had a baby on the way and overall, it seemed as though he was going to have a happy ending and he could act like being a hired killer had never happened. He could be a good dad, and a good husband.
"Mad? Hey, hon, you okay?"
Blue had taken her under his wing, acted like a true friend and in a way, was almost like an older brother to her. Mad Hatter realised he was still on the line, so decided to settle his nerves.
"I'm fine, Blue. Listen, i've gotta go- business calls. I'll send you some pictures later, okay?"
"Thanks, Mad, you're the best. Talk to you soon, you take care of yourself, you hear? Make sure you get plenty of sleep, and eat regularly."
Mad Hatter rolled her eyes with a little smile on her face, his parental instincts were kicking in already.
"Whatever you say, Dad."
With that, she ended the call and put her phone down. Sighing, she went back to eating. Blue Caterpillar played on her mind, he was one of her most trusted friends (not that she had many of them to begin with) and in a sense, it hurt her that he was having to keep so many lies from the one person he actually cared about. Still, it wasn't like it was her problem, she had nothing to do with it and in all honestly (as selfish as it sounded) she didn't exactly care. She left people to their own devices, let them sort out their problems.
At the end of the day, she was just a simple human being. No kind of preacher anyone could go and talk to, just a human who lived life how she wanted to. She was going to get her revenge, whether the person receiving it liked it or not.

"Don't lie, dude, you totally like her. Ashlé is kind of hot though, so I understand why."
Danika playfully nudged Hiro, apologising when he 'oww'd' and rubbed his arm.
"I don't like her. You know me, some other girl's gonna come along and then i'll start liking them."
"Yeah, we'll see about that. That class was so boring, am I right? Jeez, was Abigail in the right frame of mind when she hired that guy? Not gonna lie, he's really giving off a creepy vibe."
"Like pervy vibe or just plain creepy?" Hiro asked, he wasn't gonna be too happy if his teacher turned out to be some secret pervert. If he was, then he wouldn't let him get his dirty hands on his sister, not by a long shot.
"No, just creepy. Whether it's the soft voice that does it, i'm not sure. Anyway, I don't want to get into a whole conversation about it, it doesn't matter. Oh, look at this." Danika pulled Hiro to hide behind the lockers with her. "Tadashi and Evie at twelve o'clock. Are you seeing this? Man, I think he really likes her."
Hiro wasn't so sure, Tadashi had said he wasn't looking for anyone any time soon, he had much bigger priorities to take care of than date a girl that was probably only going to break his heart after a week or so. He wasn't ready to go through that kind of heartbreak, he didn't know if he could take much more of it considering what had happened to him at ELEMENT Industries.
"They're just talking, it doesn't mean he likes her. We hardly know anything about this girl, Danika, she might not be all that she says she is."
"Oh don't be so dramatic, bro. You're just not wiling to give her a chance because you're scared she's gonna take Tadashi away if he happens to get close to her. You gotta remember, his family are his first priority, Tadashi's a grown man, he knows when someone can't be trusted."
Danika found it rather adorable that her big brother was starting to come out of his shell more. In three years, she had seen a massive improvement. He went from being the paranoid, nervous wreck that he was to being almost like his old self again, who he was before the project. Of course, nothing could ever truly fix a PTSD ridden mind, she knew about that more than anyone, but there was ways with coping and being happy was Tadashi's way to cope. It warmed her heart that he was feeling better after so long of wallowing in his own sadness.
She just hoped that for her brother's sake, it would stay that way for him. No more sadness, just smiles and happiness.
It was a shame no one knew what they would be up against.
A/:N: After a month's hiatus, B.B.E is back, babies! :D hope this was worth the wait for you all!
