New Beginning
3 weeks later...
'I can't believe it!'
This was it.
Yvonne Loubelle had finally made it to San Fransokyo after a long flight from her birth home of Ottawa, Canada. She was going to accomplish her dream, a dream of attending the city's best institute for technology. Yvonne (or Evie) hoped that moving all the way from Ottawa, Canada to the city had been worth it.
She was determined to follow her dream, and as long as she was determined, she knew that nothing would be able to stop her. Saying soft and quiet 'Sorry's', 'Pardon me's' and 'Excuse me's' as she tried to get through the numerous crowds of passing citizens, Evie sighed with relief when she managed to get out of the crowds in one piece. Walking down the street with the handle of her suitcase in one hand and her bag of essentials in the other, she embraced the gentle breeze and the warm heat of the sun, it's rays shining down to kiss her cheeks.
So far so good.
Another turn to the right, Evie was close to what would be her brand new home. Once she arrived at the front door, she grabbed her keys from the pocket of her vintage-looking floral dress, other sets of keys jingling together in a little tune as she tried to find the right key that would open the door.
"This one? No, that's not it. How about this one?"
Placing a key into the lock, it went in with a small click as she turned it. Pushing the door open, Evie whispered a small 'Yes!' of victory as she entered the house. Closing and locking the door behind her, she turned on the lights with a flick of a switch and smiled.
'It's just how I remember it. The blue sofa, the mahogany wood floor, the painting of the lilies that Grandpa painted for Grandma when we came here for our vacation before-'
The memory Evie thought of wasn't one that she liked to think of. Temporarily erasing it from her mind, she sat down on the sofa, placing her hands on her lap as she was unsure of what to do next. There were so many things that she wanted to do, so many places and sites that she wanted to see, but there was only so many hours in a day.
"I can and look around once i've finished unpacking. Right now, I could really use a shower to freshen up. I feel all gross, that plane journey was really long."
Going to the bathroom, Evie admired the framed photographs that were on the wall while on her way. Some being of her grandparents when they were in their youth, others captured memories from when she was a little girl, innocently playing with her dolls and dressing up in pretty princess dresses. Man, how she wished she could go back to those innocent days- she'd do anything to be a kid again.
As she turned the faucet to her right, she watched as the warm water poured into the bathtub.
She knew she would have to wait a few minutes until the water reached to a moderate level- to the point were she had enough to cleanse her skin with the raspberry soap she had brought with her. At least now she had as long as she needed to have a relaxing moment to herself.
Fifteen minutes later, the water had reached just below the peak of the bathtub. Letting some of it be swallowed by the drain so that it wouldn't overflow, Evie placed her clothes on the wash basket and stepped into the tub.
The bubbles in the tub had turned pink because of the dye from the soap. The smell of fruit lingered, though it was so pleasant that Evie felt like closing her eyes and staying were she was. Steam rose from the water, and the young woman rested the soap on the white porcelain soap stand.
