Fluttering Hearts
"My grandma would most probably yell at me if she could see me now. This was her favourite cardigan." Evie sighed, folding the item of clothing and putting it in her bag. "Thanks for getting me out of that mess, I appreciate it."
"No problem." Tadashi said, smiling. "I'm sorry about your grandmother's cardigan; I hope you can fix it."
"It has a few little tears, but it's nothing I can't stitch. Oh, hello, Morley."
"How ya doing, Evie?" Morley greeted, his hands resting in his lab coat pockets. "You settling in well?"
"I'm getting there." Evie answered, a little shy. "I know I should be in class, but I needed a moment to be excused."
"Ah, I see. Don't worry about it, as long as you keep your pass with you, you can't be refused to leave when you ask to."
"I'm guessing that's because of the episodes you have, right?" Tadashi said, he didn't sound desperate for an answer. Evie nodded, remembering how they had talked about their illnesses earlier and how they had both seen their darker sides interacting with one another.
"Oh, you knew?" Morley asked, he liked hearing about two students open up to one another, especially when they had the same kind of interests, or in this case mental conditions.
"Yeah, we were talking about it." Tadashi replied, brushing off a thorn from his jacket. "Turns out what we suffer from is identical, isn't that right?"
"Right." Evie said. She felt sorry for Tadashi, genuinely she did, though there was something about him that stuck out to her. It wasn't his looks, even though she could see he was a handsome guy.
It was his personality. He seemed so sweet and gentle, but somehow she could see that he possessed a darker side, and that wasn't because of Sunny. There was something about him that seemed like, he was keeping certain tendencies he had within him a secret.
'Oh gosh, he's not some sort of psycho is he? No, that's not right. Just because he has a condition, it doesn't make him a bad person. I have it too, so I can't say stuff like that. You really need to think these things through, Evie; you're not the person you used to be. This is a fresh start that won't just benefit you; it'll benefit everyone around you. Good impressions are a must if you want to make some new friends around here.'
"Well, it's great to see you getting to know other students, Evie." Morley said, noticing the bottle of orange juice in his pocket and immediately realising he had to be somewhere else. "Darn it, I totally forgot! I need to give this to Abby. I've gotta get going, nice to see you're making new friends. See ya!"
Morley rushed off to tend to Abigail, he was a total nerd at heart (if anything, he was pretty much a human teddy bear who had a habit of drinking coffee and getting invested into too many memes). He got along with Ted, Fred and Zach because of his love for animated shows and comics, but mostly because whenever he had the time, he would get together with them and enjoy marathons of amazing TV and eat nothing but junk food.
"He seems nice." Evie smiled nervously, finding it a little amusing how his red curls bounced up and down when he ran. "Is he always like that?"
"Not all the time, he's actually a lot more serious when he's doing his more...professional work. But hey, that's Morley for you." Tadashi said, laughing awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his head.
'Well this is just great; things are already starting to get awkward. What should I do?'
"Either way, I like him. I imagine a lot of girls have a crush on him, huh? He's handsome and everything, but not really my type. I'm not against red heads at all; I personally just don't like the colour."
Well, at least she wasn't some other girl who had an undying crush on Morley. Tadashi had no idea what was going on inside of those girls' heads, couldn't they see that he was way too old for them? Not to mention he was the vice principal, it would have been just plain nasty if a student was dating someone like him. Besides, he'd told them numerous times that he was only interested in dating girls closer to his age; they sadly didn't stand a chance against that. That was one thing Tadashi liked about Morley, he knew his place and was determined to put others in theirs as well.
Though for one odd reason to another, he couldn't understand the feeling within him. His heart fluttered, and he hadn't felt anything like that since he was in his early teen years. Was it possible that he was...no, it couldn't be, could it? It was far too soon to be developing any kind of feelings for anyone, especially someone like Evie. She seemed so fragile, calm and gentle about everything that he didn't want to scare her with anything that frankly, she might not have been used to. It was somewhat obvious to him that for an early period of her life, she had been sheltered from the evils of the outside world and it was why at times she seemed so vulnerable. She couldn't protect herself from a guy who had almost done something awful (disgusting) to her despite not even being in the city for very long. Maybe San Fransokyo simply wasn't the right place for her to be in, but she was so determined to follow her dreams.
Evie's heart practically skipped a beat when she looked into those brown eyes she had found to be so comforting, as if the person possessing them didn't have a single bad bone in his body even though his powers seemed violent and dangerous, and somehow despite that seemingly being the case, they also appeared to be filled with warmth and love, as if he only ever wanted to use his abilities to help those who were truly in need. Fire in his eyes, it wasn't an evil element. It was a friend- well, even though he had a living conscience just like she did.
"I suppose we should head back inside?"
"Yeah, yeah I think that'd be for the best."

'Another boring class, as usual.'
Hiro was hardly paying any attention, his adoptive sister; Danika on the other hand was far too busy taking notes for future reference. Perhaps he should have been doing the same, but if all else failed she would let him copy off her notes so that he had some chance in succeeding when he chose a job later on in his life. If his part-time job at their aunt's cafe wasn't enough, then he didn't know what was.
"Dude, you're blanking out again." Danika whispered to him, getting his attention. "Tadashi's gonna flip if he hears anything bad from our teachers again, and there's no doubt he's probably gonna put the blame on me as well. Look, just copy off some of my notes and everything will be fine. Whatever you do, don't make it obvious."
"Thanks."
Hiro had his pen at the ready and proceeded to take down some notes, looking up every once and a while to make sure that the teacher wasn't looking in his direction. Thankfully, he wasn't as he was too busy helping another student who didn't understand what needed to be done. He didn't seem annoyed by it, he knew that everyone had to learn at their own pace and not everyone could process things as well as everyone else. It was nothing to be ashamed of; it was just one of those things in life that sometimes occurred.
"It was really that simple? 'a, i'm so dumb." he heard the student say, not pronouncing the 'h' in her words due to her French accent.
"You're not dumb at all, Ashlé . I had the same trouble when I was at school, you don't have to be embarrassed about it. Do you understand what you need to do now?"
"I do. Thank you."
Ashlé was a transfer student from France, and apparently a victim of T.E.P. Hiro wasn't sure whether or not she knew Tadashi (because whenever a mutant's name was mentioned, it was often the case that Tadashi knew who they were). Even if his brother did know her, she did seem like a nice person, and her accent was absolutely irresistible. Cute even.
"You're looking at Ash again." Danika smirked, playfully nudging her brother.
"No i'm not." Hiro replied, rolling his eyes with a sigh.
'I guess that's the downside of having a sister. They always tease you.'
