A/N: This will probably be the last update until the new year. I hope you all have a good Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) and spend some good quality time with your family and friends! Enjoy!
Two Sides to Every Story
"She's insane, Kev! Face it, man, the girl lied to us! She wasn't here on some independent job, she purposely came here to come on a killing spree! Do you realise how many codes she has violated!?" Blue Caterpillar slammed his hand down on the table, blood roaring. White Rabbit did nothing but sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"I'm aware, Blue. Very aware," he responded, head aching. "You don't need to yell, I know how many rules she has broken. We have no other choice but to do this,"
White Rabbit stood up, hands behind his back as he looked at Tadashi and Danika.
"We're going to have to work together as a team to bring Mandy down."
"What!?" Danika exclaimed, shaking her head. "You really think we're gonna team up with hired killers? Fat chance!"
"There's no way either of you are putting my friends and family in danger!" Tadashi protested, standing in front of his sister protectively. "Your 'friend' tried to kill me and an innocent woman and you expect us to believe that you simply don't agree? No, buddy, you're gonna have to do a lot better than that. A lot better."
He furrowed his brows, feeling the fire within wanting to burst out and create an inferno. One with his element, he found it easy to control his deepest, darkest desires.
"You know, some of us actually don't like doing what we have to do." Blue Caterpillar said, clenching his fist. "This assassin business is nothing but crap to Kev and I. You think we enjoy killing, regardless of who we are assigned to get rid of? No! We hate it! I hate it! What we earn...it's blood money! We're just normal guys outside of work, just like you, Sunfire. Yeah, don't think we don't know about that."
"We know what went down in ELEMENT Industries." White Rabbit spoke with a frown. "We're sorry you had to suffer because of it. Believe me, if there was something-"
Tadashi hated hearing that name, it was enough to drive him over the edge. How dare they refer to him by that horrid title!
"My name isn't Sunfire. It's Tadashi!" he was close to screaming, fists closing into a ball. "You have no right to call me that, you hear me!? It's Tadashi! My name is Tadashi Hamada! You don't know anything about me or what I went through, so don't even try saying you understand, because you sure as hell don't!"
"Go on, burn 'em!" Sunny edged him on, cackling. Fire emerged from Tadashi's palms when he slowly opened his fingers, heart beating rapidly. An almost sinister look possessed him when his eyes changed to red, White Rabbit and Blue Caterpillar taking a step back with expressions of horror.
"O-okay man, take it easy." White Rabbit eased him, deep down he was wanting to beat himself up over how much of a coward he was being, he was utterly terrified of someone eight years his junior!
I knew I should have paid attention in Mutant studies!
"M-maybe I took that a little too far?" Blue Caterpillar stuttered, the brown-haired male more nervous than he ever had been in his life. He reached for the door handle, opening it. Both the assassins ran out without any kind of warning, Tadashi easing himself when they had gone.
"And don't come back." he growled, a flash of orange in his eyes before they went back to brown. Danika reached up and putting her hands on Tadashi's shoulder, resting her hand on it.
"You okay?" she asked him, concerned for her big brother. Tadashi gave a sigh, looking at her sweetly with a soft smile.
"I'm fine, honey. I'm sorry you had to see that."
The eldest Hamada barely had to walk to the fridge, the man taking out a beer and popping the top off it. He took a quick sip, Danika staring at the bottle with her usual want to try some.
"Don't even think about it, young lady." he said to her. "You still got two more years till you're allowed to drink."
The younger female sighed, going up to her room. She had tried yet again to get her first taste of alcohol, and as always her brother had stopped her. Sneaking down to the kitchen late at night didn't even work, she would stand on an old floorboard and end up being caught.
Tadashi rolled his eyes, taking the quiet time he had to enjoy his drink. If Mad Hatter attempted anything else, he and his friends would take care of it, they didn't need help from any outside forces, especially not from two men who killed for a living.
There was one thought that came to mind, however, and it was the thought of an event that had happened so long ago. To this day he still felt guilty for it.
Unfortunately, the past could never be rewritten to something more preferable. The occasional flashbacks hurt enough already, though having to remember the whole thing...it was torture.
-Five Years Ago-
"Please, i'm begging you! No more! It...it hurts!" the scientist begged, reaching out to Tadashi with a bloody hand. The Japanese-American smirked, not saying anything as he rose the baseball bat once more and landed the all critical hit, red splattering onto the floor and the last remnants of life draining from the body it had once inhabited.
"Should have thought of that before you experimented on me and my friends." he finally said in an almost brutal tone.
"Good job, bud. I'm impressed. I didn't think you'd actually go through with it." said the voice in his head, his words having an echo each time he spoke. Tadashi's eye colour reverted back to brown, the young man shaking his head and moaning in pain a little. His eyes turning to the bat in his hand, he gasped and dropped it, staring in shock at all the blood he could see.
"No...no, no, no!" he shook his head, covering his mouth as he did so. Turning to his side, he puked and coughed, with tears soon following. The alarms blaring, Tadashi knew he would have to be quick if he wanted to escape, if he wanted the plan to succeed. Death had not been on the agenda, though it was much too late to do anything to help. Tadashi Hamada had committed a terrible crime and there was no coming back from it, not completely anyway. His hands soon hung loosely at his sides, Danika taking one of them and leading him back to the group. She hadn't noticed the battered corpse on the floor.
"Sunny, we can't stick around! We gotta go!" she said, Tadashi soon copying her movements and breaking into a run. That sight...it would never leave him for as long as he lived, and the fact that he had he had killed...
Was going to be a secret that he would take to the grave. No one would ever know the truth, not even those he trusted one hundred percent.
-Present Day-
Evie was in the shower, the warm water sprinkling from the metal head as she washed with willow and bluebell scented soap. The suds cleansed her physique, her skin would be soft to the touch by the time she got out. Her dampened hair covered her eyes and she gave a slight shake of her head to move it away.
"I should really consider getting my bangs cut," she spoke over the water hitting the tiled floor, steam causing condensation to form on the glass. When Evie was done she stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around herself and hair, soon walking to her room to change. Her outfit of choice was one of her grandmother's old dresses she had found in her closet, the dress still in perfect condition, as though it had never been worn.
Evie knew otherwise.
"Hope you don't mind, Grandma." she smiled in a melancholy manner, changing into the dress and drying her hair, straightening it and tying it into a bun. "I know this was one of your favourites at my age, and I hope I can pull off the look as well as you did."
