Chasing Wattpad

While you were writing about writing, everybody else was writing.

Write what only you can write.

Yes, yes rants and how to books are great and everybody loves them and wants to read them and they get you votes and reads and blah blah blah. But any idiot with half a brain can rant about something. That doesn't make you a writer. It makes you a blogger. And everybody knows blogging is just the graffiti of the literature world. Relax bloggers I'm kidding. There is a place for you in this world too. I don't know where that is but I am sure there is a place for you. Maybe.

All these books about writing bother me sometimes. I look at many of them and see that the people writing them have not really written anything other than their book about writing. What makes you think you know anything about writing if you have never really written anything?  I could never imagine telling anyone how to tell a story. I am not sure it can be taught even if I knew how to teach it. Some of the most brilliant books I have ever read don't follow any of the rules many of you put in your books. I really don't get it. But I don't get a lot of things so that is okay.

There are also too many rant books on this site. I include Chasing Wattpad and Chasing Words in this group (they are quite brilliant though, check them out, lol). And I notice that many of those people ranting about stuff are not writing anything else either. Your stupid rant book gets a million reads and you are not doing anything else. That can't be any good for you as a writer. 

Believe it or not there are stories that no one else but you can write. No one has your life and your thoughts and no one sees the world exactly the same as you do. Your story cannot be written by anyone else and if you do not tell it no one can tell it for you. And I don't mean your life story. I mean what ever story is in your head. Fiction or non-fiction it really doesn't matter. No one can write like you. Don't deprive yourself or others of that.

But those of you (me included) who waste their time ranting about this and that just for the sake of writing something are sometimes just stalling.  While you are doing that everyone else is writing a story. A real story that stands alone in the real world as something special. Something new and different. They are writing about things real and not real and making magic. While you are out there reporting the news they are making it. 

Real writing doesn't always come easy. Sometimes it takes work. If you really want to do it you must work at it. It should all be about the writing for you. Don't waste time writing crap like this for the sake of writing something. 

Write your story. Do it because while you sit there and write about writing and other stuff,  everyone else is really writing. They are way ahead of you. Thousands of words ahead of you. They are making magic. What are you doing?
