Chasing Wattpad

Follow me, or don't. Your loss, or not.

Follow requests don't bother me. Like anything on here I can simply ignore them. I have no problem with someone asking me to read something for whatever reason. Every once in a while I will get a private message asking me to please follow them or to check out this or that story. I either do or don't depending on a lot different things. Like if I ate chocolate that day there is a good chance I will do what you ask. Or wine, yeah wine helps. I'll follow you if I have been drinking wine. Not vodka though, don't ask me on a vodka night. I don't drink vodka often (maybe 3 times a year), but I don't accept requests on vodka. I might sing you a nice 70's song. Maybe some Manilow, or the Eagles, the Bee Gees even. Hell, I might even sing you a nice Mexican narco corrido if I have more than I should. It could happen.

Anyways, the other day some person went on several of my stories and commented (I erased them). They did not comment about the story at all. The only comment they left on 6 of my stories was "follow me!". I thought about it for a second. I admit it got me a little peeved. You come on to my story and then go to the comments and do not talk about the story at all? Seriously? I checked the profile and they were new. First of all they had no stories. Why would I follow you if you are not writing anything? I don't follow people that don't write. Why would I? They had maybe 10 followers and nothing going on the page. Nothing on the "about" section at all and the account was a couple of days old.

I felt like giving them the old Liam Neesom "I will find you and I will kill you" speech but I dedicded against it. Let them be. If they are serious about Wattpad they will work it out. 

I figured that they were newbies and just don't know good Wattpad manners. Or any kind of manners for that matter. But I let it go. I just erased them and moved on. They are probably out there doing it to someone else. 

I do see why people starting out need to get out there and get people to follow them. One of my stories got featured on Wattpad recently (The Body, go read it, do it now) and that has gotten me hundreds of new followers. All of them newbies looking for their first followers. Most of them are just readers but a good chunk of them have uploaded a story and need readers. I nearly always read those. People need some feedback to keep motivated. I get that.

I'm closing in on about 2 thousand followers. Most of them will read me once and never come back again. But there will be a few people that stick around for whatever reason. That is cool. Some are just readers but many are writers. And I get to follow them and see them grow in their writing. That is cool too.

Writers need readers, and that means followers.

So follow me, or don't. Your loss, or not. Who knows? It's all a mystery.
