Kakashi P.O.V

Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru and Shino had managed to bring back Sasuke. From what I hear they were chased by sound ninjas. It had been proved beyond doubt that the sound village had formed an alliance with sand village and orchestrated the attack on Konoha. It was also found that the Kazekage was missing and that Orochimaru had disguised himself as the Kazekage to sneak in. This meant that even though the sand village attacked them, they were innocent.

The worst part was that the Hokage had died. It seemed that Orichimaru had managed to kill him.

Naruto: But why did the old man die? Akame survived the battle and managed to make him retreat, believe it!

Akame managed to push him back? Was she sannin level? No. She wasn't even a ninja. But I do remember her saying that one cut from Murasame will lead to instant death and that there is no antidote to the poison. She had also mastered Ice release...though Sakura tells me that she uses no hand signs and that she always uses the word 'freezing blade' whenever she used it.

Was it another 'imperial arm' like Murasame? Akame did mention that she cannot manipulate chakra...only use imperial arms.

I remembered one more thing...she said that only an imperial arm can defeat another imperial arm.

Does that mean she is invincible?

On the morning of the funeral

Everyone was already here...even though it was hours before the even was scheduled to start. Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke arrived in their mourning dress. The sky was grey and made it quite obvious that there would be a downpour any moment.

Konohamaru was hurdled against Asuma. Kurenai was patting him lightly on the head. Asuma looked like he was holding back a flood because he needed to be there for his nephew.

Team Kurenai, Team Asuma and my team were there too. Wait! Akame didn't arrive yet!

Kakashi: Naruto, have you seen Akame?

I saw Sakura turn pale and Sasuke turn away. Naruto was silent for a while too.

Kakashi: Where is Akame?

They flinched and I realized that I had raised my voice at them without intending to. I sighed. Why wouldn't they tell me?

Sakura: I...um... We saw her at the edge of the forest.

Naruto: She might be at the hospital...

What? She was injured? When?

Sasuke: Don't waste words, dobe. We last saw her at the edge of the forest. We didn't see her after that.

Kakashi: You mean...you don't even know if she came back to the village. Was she strong enough to make her way back?

The trio looked at the ground... Why were they behaving so awkwardly? They were really good friends with Akame before...why would they ignore her?

Kakashi: Take me to where you last saw her...NOW!

In the forest

We were interrupted by several ANBU who were removing the remains of the battle. He could see masses of pale green colored flesh everywhere. Sakura looked as if she was going to be sick.

Did Akame do all this?

We searched around for quite a while when we found a cave.

The sight in front of me was...truly shocking. Akame was sleeping in the cave. A black cloak had been laid on her and bandages covered her hands and legs. She looked totally spent and she was burning with a high fever.

"Sorry...Tatsumi...everyone... it was...my fault...everyone died...wasn't strong enough..."

There were tears leaking down her face...

How long had she been in such a state?

I turned and found guilt-ridden faces on his students faces.

Kakashi: You all knew that she was in a horrible condition and you left her? Why?

Sakura had started crying and Naruto was trying to pacify her. I felt my anger building up. I need the reason, dammit!

Sasuke: After Naruto had defeated Gaara, we were on our way back when we saw Akame surrounded by all those dead bodies and blood all over her. We didn't know that she was injured. The stench of the blood made us sick and...she is a murderer.

Naruto: She was like a heartless monster, believe it!

I did one thing that would immediately rise to the top of my regrets list later...but right now I felt satisfied doing it.

I flashed next to Naruto and Sasuke and punched them to the ground. Sakura was a girl and I couldn't hurt her so I merely sent her a death glare. She had stopped sobbing.

Kakashi: She is a monster? Did you see those bodies? They were not human. Orochimaru is known for conducting experiments. Imagine hundreds of those creatures breaching the Konoha gates when we were already busy fighting the sound ninjas, the huge snakes and Orochimaru. With the the third Hokage dead...the village would have been destroyed! How is she a monster? She is a hero and she is insanely strong! How could you call her a monster? She went out of her way to protect a village that she had barely spent a few months in. How would you have felt if Iruka had called you a monster, Naruto?

The trio looked at me with bewildered looks. I was known as the 'friend killer' Kakashi but...it's not like I did it on purpose! To think they could think of her as a monster and abandon her when she needed them...

I gave them a final look of disgust and walked towards Akame. She was burning hot. It had rained yesterday. Who had put a cloak on her? Who had tended to her injuries? It was quite obvious that she had not in a state to do it herself. Someone had helped her.

I lifted her. She snuggled into my chest. She felt really hot...and I knew that I had to take her to the hospital quickly.

"Thank you...Tobi-san. Tobi is a good boy..."

She was smiling slightly... and it seemed that she was delirious. She quickly slumped back to sleep.

Tobi? As in Tobirama? No. He is dead. Sarutobi? Did she meet Hokage-sama before he died?

But wasn't she injured around the time when Hokage-sama died? Sasuke said that they saw her on their way back...so who was this Tobi?

Naruto and Sakura seemed to feel sorry for their actions. Naruto carried her twin swords, Murasame and freezing blade, and Sakura took the bag that seemed to contain Akame's possessions. Weird... I've never seen her carry it before... Sasuke walked behind us quietly.

We walked towards the hospital, listened to the aggravated nurse's scoldings on how she could have developed pneumonia if she had been brought a little later.

The nurses had enough tantrums to throw.

It seemed that Ice rained down from the heavens and killed the sound ninjas leaving them free to tend to the huge snakes.

Thanks to Akame and the Sandaime-sama's sacrifice, there were no casualties...though there were a few injuries and damage to the village infrastructure.

I stayed beside Akame's bed till the evening but she showed no signs of walking up so I decided to join Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura at Sandaime-sama's funeral.
