Chapter 57 : Challengers on stage!

Akame P.O.V

Akame: So? What was so important that you had stop me at the worst time possible?

Sasuke: It was the worst time? I personally thought it was the best time. My instructions were to stop him. Not kill him. To think someone with strong ethics like you would fall for his provocation...

Akame: Is that so? I suppose I am just glad that it was me and not you who had to listen to his rubbish.

I have no idea how Sasuke would react if he finds out that Danzo orchestrated the entire Uchiha massacre just because he was afraid they might overpower him.

Sasuke: Anyway...about the reason I came for you. The attack on Konoha is on a much larger scale than we thought. I want you to help them directly or... by the time we defeat the enemy, there will be no village to go back to.

And so I found myself scrolling through the rubbles that used to be bustling streets of Konoha. It is surprising how six insanely strong individuals can wreck an entire ninja village. Sasuke was right...at this rate, Konoha will be wiped out of existence just like Uzushiogakure. But...

Not as long as I can help it!

I ran quickly around to find the six pains. It would be a simple run-and-gun strategy. Find the enemy and annihilate them on sight. Tsunade-hime's summon slug Katsuyu had split itself into innumerable slugs which latched onto the injured and healed them.

Sakura: Aka..no..Yasha-san, you are not a member of the Akatsuki right?

Akame: No...I am not.

Sakura: Then please make sure that the enemies are not able to come near the hospital. 

Akame: I understand. Haruno Sakura-san, please continue to tend to the injured and leave the defence to me. 

Sakura: I see...thank you.

Sakura gave me a small smile. A smile I couldn't but return, despite the situation. Looks like Sakura realized my true identity as well. Somewhere, Sasuke was also helping Konoha. Sakura and I were here. It was as if team seven had come together once again...since I knew that Naruto was definitely on the way back.

I heard a huge crashing sound and saw a cloud of smoke and dust rise from the source. It was a little too close to the hospital so I decided to check it out. Iruka-sensei was trying to take an injured ninja to the hospital. When he was attacked, Kakashi-sensei stepped and stopped it.

Kakashi: Iruka, take him to the shelter. I'll handle things here.

Iruka: Okay! Take care! 

Without a word, Kakashi-sensei headed off towards the Tendo Pain(the Deva path Pain) and gave Iruka-sensei the opening to run away.

Kakashi: So on one hand, you are being violent and making a mess while on the other hand, you're searching for information from the shadows?

Pain: Then I shall ask you instead. Where is the Kyuubi?

Kakashi: What you are doing is pointless. Naruto is different. Konoha is different. No one in this village would betray him. No one will tell you where he is. Unlike other villages where jinchurikis are abandoned, we consider Naruto a comrade. Even if we were to lose our lives...none of us would ever...sell out a comrade!

Pain: Is that so?

Kakashi: Indeed it is!

With a snap, Kakashi-sensei broke the black rod in Pain's hand. Pain tried to round kick him but the latter quickly dodged it and make the requisite handseals for the jutsu, his Sharingan blazing.

Kakashi: Doton : Doryuuheki(Earth style : Mud wall technique)!

A huge wall formed a barrier between him and the hospital. Using that moment, Pain's rod pierced through Kakashi-sensei's shoulder and sensei hastened to use his Raikiri on him from close quarters.

But before he could land a hit, Pain activated an ability that stalled sensei for a second. It was enough time for Pain to dodge that attack.

Pain: Copy ninja, Hatake Kakashi, let me ask you again. Where is the Kyuubi?

Kakashi: That is a very foolish question you know. I would never answer it!

Pain: I see. In that case I have no further need for you. Hatake Kakashi, a person of your skill and intellect will surely be a threat to the Akatsuki in the future. Thus I shall make sure that you die today!

With a huge crash, Kakashi-sensei's wall was reduced to rubble. The next moment, he rose slightly in the air and was slowly being sucked towards Pain. It was as if Kakashi-sensei was held by an invisible hand that pulled him towards Pain. The latter was waiting with a rod to pierce sensei with it. 

Akame: Tsk...as if I'll let that happen! Freezing blade!

Before Pain could be shred sensei to pieces, I distracted him with Ice blades and used that momentary distraction to pull sensei to safety.

Kakashi: A-Akame?

Sigh...just what was Sasuke's purpose of disguising me as Yasha Shirayuki? At this rate, even Naruto would easily find out my true identity...and he is one of the densest people I have met.

Akame: Well...I am Yasha Shirayuki for now! But there are more important matters to worry about for now like-

Pain: Metsujin Akame, what are you doing here? 

Akame: Oh? Didn't Tobi-kun tell you? I am not with the Akatsuki...well I never really joined you guys from the very beginning.

Pain: I see. Then you are an enemy as well. 

Before I could do anything at all, a wave of energy hit out at me and sent me flying. Tsk...he really is powerful, eh?

Looks like my decision of helping out Kakashi-sensei was right after all...

Kakashi: Aka...I mean, Yasha-san, are you alright?

It took me a bit of time to stand steady on my legs. But I realized something from the attack just now. Tendo Pain of the Deva path. The ability to push or pull all things...even ninjutsu...it could only be one thing.

Akame: Kakashi-san, this Pain's ability...it's gravity!

Kakashi: I see.

I knew what Kakashi-sensei was thinking. He would need to wipe out the enemy or survive long enough to deliver the newly gained intel to the Hokage office.

Besides... considering how close Pain is to the hospital, he couldn't be allowed to do any more damage.

Kakashi: Since you are here...does that mean Sasuke is back too?

Sensei sounded so desperate but...Sasuke couldn't come out in the open...not right now. They'll just accuse him of being with Pain. I shook my head in denial and sensei let out a deep sigh.

Kakashi: I see, that's a pity considering I wanted to witness the revival of Team seven but...we have more important things to take care of right now.

I nodded in agreement but I could already see that this was going to be insanely hard. Out of all the Pains, this one was the most powerful and Nagato's favourite. He wouldn't let it die so easily.

Akame: Yes. Let us defeat this Deva path Pain first. But sensei, remember Jiraiya-sama's last words...the real one isn't among them.

Kakashi: Yes. I'll keep it in mind. Now let us teach these villains what happens when you mess with Konoha! 

Pain who displays overwhelming power...

And the Konoha shinobi who are being driven to a corner...

What miracle awaits us as we reach our limits?
