Chapter 42 : Two hearts that beat as one

Akame P.O.V

'Drop the girl back to that brat's side. Looks like your partner Deidara is going to die anyway. It would be nice if I could introduce Akame as your partner in the Akatsuki...but oh well, stick to your promise, girl. ' 

I grit my teeth and got up. It just won't do to show Sasuke such a weak side of me...besides such minor setbacks are unavoidable if I truly with to attain power. With sacrifice comes power and I'd rather sacrifice my comfort rather than my goals and ambitions.

We were back in the middle of the forest clearing. The trio of Team Hebi weren't back yet. I tried to move but Obito held me down. When I struggled mildly against my grip, he simply shook and held on tighter.

Sasuke and Deidara looked away from their fight and at us. We were quite the picture...I am sure. We both looked like we'd made it out of an explosion. Dust covered our skin and our hair stood up at odd angles. Our clothes were ripped here and there(I wear minimal armor for everyday purpose so my ripped up clothing didn't make the scene 'obscene').

Deidara: Oye Tobi! Step away from this place!

Obito: I-It's the C4 Karura! Move it!

Obito was back towards acting like the usual hyperactive kid but I could see a hint...no...a lot of worry in the depths of his eyes. He suddenly held onto my wrist and ran in the opposite direction like an idiot.

Deidara spewed a lot more of his clay gooey substance but this time, the quantity was huge and it moulded itself into a huge clay statue of him. Sasuke's eyes were wide in shock. When the clay statue landed on the ground, it created HUGE craters in the ground.  

Sasuke: That thing is a bomb too? If it's so then it's a huge one. If that thing goes off...

Worry was evident in his voice. Fighting a snaky bastard is one thing but...a crazy bomber is something different altogether. Sasuke tried to run away but the real Deidara directed the clay clone from atop the clay bird.

Deidara: Running away are we? You think you can run away from my C4 Karura.

At this rate, Sasuke will get squashed into a pancake and then that thing would explode. I wanted to help but I was in no state to use my Imperial arms. But then another brilliant idea struck me. 

Ok...Sasuke. I'll give you the chance you need.

It had traumatized Sasuke when I used it against his brother in the past but it's time for it again...sorry for destroying the 'sensei' image that you have of me.

I took a deep breath and drank all the sake I had in one gulp. The effect was immediate. The bottle broke as I set it down a bit more harshly than I intended to. Crap...my vision is blurring and I feel woozy...

Obito P.O.V

Obito: Akame...NO!

I had thought that she'd push herself and try to use her Imperial arms but instead she took out...a bottle of sake...and gulped it all down in one go. I had indirectly heard from Itachi what had happened when she had gotten drunk in her previous fight with him. Was she consciously getting herself drunk?

Super-tiny, nano sized bombs, the C4 Kakura. Deidara had purposefully made that clay clone explode prematurely. By using the blast created by blowing up the giant Deidara, small bombs that cannot be seen by the naked eye were dispersed into the air. It is a mechanism that sets off the bombs inside every passageway of the living creature that inhales it. These explosions destroy the body from inside at a cellular level. A truly frightening jutsu.

But what surprised me was what she had told me before she took in the sake.

'Sasuke won't be defeated by it. I can sense chakra and so I knew even if I couldn't see it. Sasuke's sharingan will see through it. The match will be over...Sasuke will end it with his own hands. I will help him from the shadows.'
