Chapter 63 : Awakening and...farewell

Akame P.O.V

"Are you awake now, Akame?"

It was the same situation like the Konoha invasion. I got knocked out and Sasuke woke me up. How long was I out this time?

Akame: Sorry...so what happened with Danzo?

Sasuke: I killed him. Karin got captured by the Konoha forces but other than that, we have suffered no casualities. In fact, Karin being in Konoha might benefit us in the long run.

Akame: Benefit us?

Sasuke: Tsunade is the Hokage so getting her help would be too hard but...while in Konoha, Karin could test Haruno Sakura and Uzuki Yugao...

Akame: And decide who would be best suited to cure your brother.

Sasuke: Exactly. I commend you on making sure that the kages didn't interrupt me while fighting Danzo. But...

I looked on in surprise at Sasuke. He looked sad, almost upset and...it had been a while since he'd made such a vulnerable face.

Akame: Is something the matter Sasuke?

Sasuke: You....were unconcious for an entire month-

Akame: A month!

I know I barely escaped death but surely my power overuse wasn't bad enough to knock me out for an entire month! Besides...if I was out for that long, wouldn't I need I.V or something to sustain me? There's no way I should be able to survive without food or water for a month!

Sasuke: I...Akame...please calm down and listen...

Listen, he said but he quietly removed the first button of my shirt and tapped on my right shoulder.

A thin, prickly feeling ran through my skin. No way...it couldn't be!

Akame: Sasuke, could you...please turn away for a moment?

The moment he turned away, I took off my shirt and looked at the place he had touched moments ago. Surely enough there were three slightly curved line like mark on my skin.

It couldn't be...the curse mark!

Akame: W-What? B-But why...

Sasuke: I asked Juugo to give you the curse mark. With Karin captured, there was no medical ninja on hand. My best bet was to introduce chakra into your body and hope it would heal you.

Akame: But...wouldn't murasame's poison counteract the curse mark? During the chuunin exam, Orochimaru tried to place the curse mark on me but Murasame nullified it. When you were nearly killed while going into the second state of curse mark, I nullified Kakashi-sensei's seal on the curse mark with Murasame's poison...

So why would I have the curse mark on me?

Sasuke: Juugo's curse mark is the original one and is much more potent than Orochimaru's. Besides, since you were introduced to Orochimaru's curse mark in the past, it enhanced the effects of Juugo's curse mark.

Something like...two curse marks mixing to become more potent? And I thought having received and rejected the curse mark would make me resistant to them, not more vulnerable.

Akame: But Murasame's poison...

Sasuke: Murasame's poison made it harder. That is why you were out for an entire month.

Akame: I still find it hard to believe it...

That vile rush of power that I felt when I was unconscious...was that the work of the curse mark?

Just when I was getting used to the fact that I actually do have chakra coursing through my veins, Sasuke suddenly hugged me out of nowhere.

Akame: S-Sasuke? W-What are you doing...my body still hurts...

Sasuke: Y-You're....you're alright...

I was still exhausted and had no energy to move or push Sasuke away. He simply rested his head into my neck and kept whispering the same thing again and again.

That I was alright.

Realizing that I'd definitely worried Sasuke too much, I simply sat doing nothing. Rather...I couldn't.

I'd never seen Sasuke so shaken before. It was as if he was in a trance. He kept whispering 'you're alright' over and over and over again.

I'd have to get stronger. I don't want to see him reduced to such state. If I can't even handle Gaara alone, there's no way that I'll be able to handle Madara in the future.

Besides, I had to get used to using my Imperial arms and my new curse mark.

I remembered how Sasuke would lose control during the initial times. In fact, my skin was distinctly grey in color and my red eyes made me look like a nightmare. I couldn't even get the curse mark's effect to recede.

And yet, Sasuke was here. He still cared. He was still worried. My appearance didn't matter to him.

Sorry Sasuke...I'll get stronger...

Until then...I am not worthy of staying by your side...

So please wait until I come back stronger. For your sake. For Obito's sake...

Before Sasuke could react, I quickly applied pressure to the soft section where the neck muscles connect with the jaw line. I temporarily blocked his tenketsu point and...knocked him out of consciousness.

"Akame-san..."

Akame: Sorry Juugo. Take care of Sasuke. I'll be back soon...very soon.

And I'll be back stronger.

Strong enough to protect you and your dreams, Sasuke...

Kabuto P.O.V

"How wonderful, I thought I'd find you here...and it looks like I was right."

I turned around to find the person I least expected. Metsujin Akame. Not to mention...her skin was a stormy grey in color.

Her eyes were pitch black but her irises were still the same scarlet colored. It looked like a mutated second stage of the curse mark.

I could guess exactly what she was here for.

Akame: I want all of your research on the curse mark.

I couldn't help but smirk. She was so similar to Sasuke. Ambitious and power hungry.

Kabuto: And what do I get in return?

Akame: Insider information about the Akatsuki.

There was no reason to doubt her. I already knew that she had contact with that 'Tobi' guy from the Akatsuki from the very beginning. From even before she and Sasuke came to Orochimaru-sama's hideout.

The kind of information she had would be hard to come by. Given the fact that I was planning to stay on Madara's side in the shinobi war, her information would be VERY valuable.

Kabuto: I accept the deal. But be prepared, it's going to be a very rough road ahead.

Akame: That isn't a concern at all.

Besides keeping an eye out on Metsujin Akame would make fruition of my plan easier.

General P.O.V

And so began Akame's new journey.

A quest for power...

Power to protect what matters to her...

Power to make sure that her past doesn't play out again.

Power to make sure that Obito and Sasuke don't meet the same end as her deceased comrades from the Night Raid.
