Chapter 28 : A touch of death and depression

Akame P.O.V

Sasuke: I am going to begin.

"We are ready."

Yeah right...I couldn't bring myself to trust them at all. Perhaps they realized it too since they glared at me and fawned over Sasuke. I sighed. Sasuke...you are being too reckless. This situation is way too...SASUKE!

The moment Sasuke swallowed the pill, he let out an inhuman cry. That shriek...it made me shudder to just think how much pain he must be going through. Wait! That was it! The seal that Kakashi-sensei placed on Sasuke...it must be rejecting the pill but the pill must be pushing on relentlessly. I knew that I would have to cancel the seal or he'll definitely die.

But I have no idea how to remove the seal! Wait! There was one way...I could make Murasame poison counter the seal but then I would definitely have to feed him the antidote. This would make him resistant to any poison for the rest of his life. But that is something that I'd wish to never do. It would mean giving Sasuke a weapon that would prevent me from ever killing him in the future. If he trained to get past my speed and Freezing blade, my life would as good as be in his hands. As loyal as I was to Sasuke...I didn't like the idea of placing my life at his feet.

"Sasuke's vitals are dropping too fast! If we don't do something, he'll definitely die!"

The four sound ninjas were panicking. Don't they know how to remove the seal? Was Kakashi-san (ex-sensei) seal so strong? But they were right. Sasuke's face started turning pale and his his voice was so hoarse from screaming that his voice came out as gasps.

What do I do?

Sasuke merely wanted to revenge his family. Was that bad? People might say that revenge is bad but...aren't they fine when the hero kills the villain for revenge in movies and plays? He must have been so broken...to see his world crumble in front of him...and the one who broke his world is his older brother, someone whom he loved more than his life.

Akame: Ah~mou! Get out of my way. I'll do it. Tsk...I'll do it all right...

I took out my Murasame out of it's sheath. The four blocked me thinking that I was going to kill Sasuke to put an end to his misery. I shoved them aside and made a very small cut exactly over Kakashi-san's seal. Sasuke's gasps subsided but his body started to go flaccid. I quickly took out a vial of red liquid and forced his down his throat. He coughed slightly but then he fell unconscious.

The four quickly placed him inside a circular container and sealed it together. The barrier that would supposedly protect from death.

Murasame's poison was far stronger than the curse mark...else I would have developed the curse mark when Orochimaru attacked me. Either the poison will nullify the curse mark and Sasuke would awaken with no trace of the curse mark or...it would blend in with the curse mark and make him even more powerful. He might have a part of powers that i usually get when I enter Murasame's posession mode.

Akame: I sense the presence of five people behind us.

Tayuya: They caught up so fast? They must be upset that the only Sharingan user they had has left the village.

Akame: They are genins but...

Jirobo: Is that something to be worried about? I'll stop them.

Tayuya, Kidomaru and Sakon continued to carry the vessel with Sasuke inside it. Akame was keeping a look out for opponents. She was sure that the presence she felt earlier belonged to Naruto. He has a tailed beast inside him which makes his aura way too easy to identify.

Jirobo much be fighting with...Choji? It was just like the technique he had displayed in the chuunin exams. He consumed some pills and his body grew HUGE.

We were going farther but...I could still sense that Jirobo was...dead while Choji was knocked out. I wondered whether I should tell them what happened. No...I should prioritize Sasuke. They should have known what they signed up for. They were supposed to protect Sasuke and lead him to the hideout.

Akame: Hurry! They have almost caught up! How long will it take for Sasuke to complete the ritual?

Tayuya: We can't do anything! We need to wait until Sasuke wakes up of his own accord.

It was slightly troubling me. The fact that it was taking so long meant that the ceremony was proceeding properly else he would have already woken up if the cursed seal had been nullified. All of a sudden I felt two people nearby and three people a bit far away.

Naruto: Stop! Give us Akame and Sasuke back!

They wanted me back too? Why? So that they can still employ me as an assassin without rights and proper pay or so that they can put all the blame for Sasuke's escape on me?

Akame: Give me the map which leads to the hideout. Kidomaru, fight the boy named Hyuga Neji. Remember that he has the Byakugan. Sakon, fight Inuzuka Kiba and his dog Akamaru. Tayuya, fight their strategist Nara Shikamaru. I'll handle Uzumaki Naruto and perhaps the other three people who are coming too.

Sakon: Who are you to tell us what to do?

Akame: I have enough strength to kill all of you and take Sasuke to the hideout myself. I am just matching up opponents in such a way that you have a better chance of survival but...don't get over confident. They are stronger than you.

Kidomaru: As if! I might be defeated by you, but those wimps are different.

The trio walked away and I headed towards the hideout while carrying Sasuke. There must be some enchantments on the barrel for it hardly weighted more than 5 kgs even though Sasuke was inside it.

Kiba, Neji and ShikamaruI had been distracted by Tayuya, Kidomaru and Sakon. They did a good job since out of the other three pursuing us, two of them had been distracted by the members of the sound four. I had just managed to lose Naruto when the remaining one pursuer managed to catch up. Sabaaku no Gaara...

Oh no...what do I do now?

Sasuke: I'll handle Naruto. You take care of Gaara and meet me at the spring outside the hideout.

Sasuke is awake! This was going to make things easy but personally this is going to psychologically affect Sasuke. He will have to defeat the person he considers as his comrade. Perhaps I should defeat Gaara quickly and catch up to Sasuke.

Gaara: I have a debt to return to Uzumaki Naruto so I shall help him. Sasuke's betrayal didn't come as a surprise to me but I am surprised that you betrayed Konoha. Why?

Akame: I have gone through a lot of things in the past...which explains my high killing intent but I thought it was finally over when I entered Konoha. But apparently not. The village has an ugly side...a side that I wish to protect Sasuke from. I'm sorry but I am going to have to defeat you.

Gaara: Let's see you try that...
