Epilogue

Sasuke P.O.V

"Sasuke-kun, you can come in."

Sakura was wearing the Konoha hospital uniform with a long white coat. As unbelievable as it sounds, she was now the acting head of the Konoha Hospital, under direct supervision of the Godaime Hokage, Senju Tsunade.

I quietly followed after Sakura. Lying on the bed was a strong shinobi. A very strong and kind shinobi who had finally woken up from a long, long slumber.

Sasuke: Brother...

The word seemed so foreign to me now. I'd spent most of my life treating him as a monster, not knowing how his kindness was the reason he sacrifised himself for the village.

Itachi turned to look at me, his eyes hazy...not registering anything. An uncomfortable silence dominated the room.

I was the one who tried to kill him. The one who had reduced my brother to such a state. Did I really have the right to even call him my brother?

Despite Sakura's protests, I turned to walk out of the room. It has been this way for more than a week.

Itachi had woken up from his comatose stage but...it was like he was a doll. He didn't register people's presence. He didn't speak.

He was...empty.

And today was no different. I called out to him but...he didn't even recognize me. Yet, I visited him everyday and tried to talk to him.

Ironical isn't it? All these years, he tried to protect me and yet, now I am within his reach, he couldn't even recognize me. The least I could do to repay him was...to stay by his side and make up for all the time we had lost.

I was about to close the door behind me when a low voice startled me. In fact, I could almost swear it was my imagination if it wasn't for the fact that even Sakura had heard it.

"S...S-Sasuke..."

Sakura: Sasuke-kun! H-He reconizes you! He's beginnning to recover!

Itachi: Sasuke...is that...really you?

It didn't matter that Sakura was around. It didn't matter that Itachi was still physically weak...

I hugged him and cried my heart out. Itachi was awake and...he didn't hate me. He still cared for me...

Sakura fed him his breakfast with utmost care. The entire village knew that over the course of caring for my brother for a month, she had truly fallen in love with him.

Unlike her love for me, it wasn't fangirlish. She unconditionally loved my brother.

But all that didn't matter in the least to me. My brother was back....he was really back!

A week later

Itachi: I see. So Akame froze my body until you could find the right kind of treatment for me. I believe I need to thank her later. I...I never thought I would get to be with you ever again. Not to mention...being back in the village...

I was truly grateful for what Akame had done. She had saved my brother. Before she disappeared, she had placed a very important letter by my side.

The third Hokage knew that Itachi was innocent. So he gave Akame a letter that made it seem that he had given me the permission to search for my brother.

During the five kage summit, it became obvious to the public that Danzo had been stealing and misusing the sharingan. The entire blame for the Uchiha massacre was put on him and...I and Itachi were welcomed with open arms into the village.

With me and Itachi back in the village and Tsunade recovered from Pain's invasion of Konoha, the village began to gear up to fight Uchiha Madara and Tobi(Obito) in the fourth great shinobi war.

But...For the past 3 months, try as we did, we found no clues regarding Akame's presence.

I realized just how hard it was for Naruto to chase after me all these years.

"Uchiha Sasuke, the Hokage requires your presence."

Sasuke: I see. I shall meet her in a while.

I took my brother back to the hospital where Sakura was waiting to continue with his rehabilitation.

In the Hokage's office

Tsunade: Sasuke...you must have a clue as to why I called you here, right?

Sasuke: Did you find out about Akame's location.

Tsunade: Yes. I'd like you to go with Team Kurenai and Captain Yamato.

Sasuke: And what about the request I had made before?

Tsunade: Unlike the dubious deal that Danzo made, Akame will be welcomed this time as an official citizen of Konoha.

Sasuke: I see, that is excellent news. But uphold your end of the promise. I want to make sure that Muira Kokufu in unable to contact Akame in anyway.

Since Danzo's death, Muira Kokufu had become the next head of the ROOT ANBU. As Akame's past incharge, there was no doubt that she'd try to silence Akame to cover up her crimes.

Sasuke: I see...Thank you.

And so, I set off on the mission to complete my journey. With my 'revenge' over with, the only thing left was to bring back the person to whom I owed it all. After all this time, I could finally understand Naruto's persistence in trying to bring me back.

But who knew that this simple mission would end up becoming the turning point for the shinobi world...
