...Continued (Chapter 15)

Eden soon realizes she isn't breathing as she stares at the ground. Her mouth is gaping open to take in something, but nothing is filling her lungs. Or maybe it's that she cannot sense a thing right. 

Eden couldn't believe such a sensation was even possible to feel. Living in this family, she has built a tolerance for pain, but it was like that threshold was being ripped by the joints. Little. By. Little.

Eden's shoulders crumple. Her hands drop down to her knees.

"Dad?!" Eden chokes out. "MY GOSH! FABIAN!" she screams for her life. This couldn't be real.

Fabian nearly leaps out his seat, and rushes over to Eden's aid. Everyone follows behind him.

Fabian makes a horrid sound as he looks down.

"FUCK!" he yells in utter terror.

It was Mel. He was sitting on the floor, and his back was against the cupboards. He was crying uncontrollably, and writhing violently. Eden couldn't keep her eyes off the two red lines that circled his wrists. Or at the cutting knife that swam in the blood that surrounded where he sat.

As Cora and Declan approach the scene, Kim is quick to pull them all the way back. She turns them around and rushes them and Leona up the staircase.

"Holy fuck!!" Fabian repeats. "Give me a phone! Give me a phone!" he panics. Vic nervously shoves his cell phone into Fabian's hands.

Meanwhile, Steph wastes no time, and rushes to Mel and grabs dish towels. She lifts Mel's hand up only to make the bleeding gush out faster.

"Fuck." She exclaims, and quickly places Mel's arm back down and ties the towel around Mel's wrist. Fabian's body is shivering, and his whole face is flushed out of color. 911 finally picks up.

"There's been an accident! I need an ambulance!" Fabian quivers. "2119 North Wallace Street! Please hurry, he's bleeding badly." Fabian turns back and sees Faye. Her hands are covering her wet face and trembling eyes.

"Yes, h-he's awake." Fabian tells the officer on the line.

"Faye!" Steph calls out. "I-I need more towels." Faye cannot respond. "JESUS, can someone get me some more fucking towels?!"

Vic finally awakes from his shock, and heads over to Steph, handing her rolls of paper towels since that's all they have to work with.

"Faye!" Fabian then says to her. "The hospital wants to know if he took any pills!"

Faye does not utter a sound.

"Faye, talk to me!" Fabian orders. But Faye just backs away. "MOM!" Fabian pleads. "MOM!"

But Faye leaves out the front door. Fabian sadly goes back to the call.

"I-I don't know if he did!" Fabian says to 911. He continues to talk, and Steph continues to help Mel.

"Mel? Mel! Can you see me? Can you see me? Can you hear me? Stay calm! Stay awake! Stay with me!" Steph says all at once. Over and over.

Fabian ends the call. When he puts the phone down, he sees Eden behind him, forgetting she was there witnessing all of this. He gasps loudly, and quickly takes her arms and buries Eden into his chest. His hand is firmly placed over Eden's eyes. It reminded her of how Fabian would try to cover her eyes when there was a sex scene, or a zombie eating someone's face on TV shows.

That was always Fabian. Trying to shield his siblings from the horrors of the world.

Today was different.
