Chapter Fourteen

I can't believe I was doing this, I was packing my bags and going to San Diego with Ronnie. It would take us a good six hours to get there if we avoided traffic but luckily Ronnie had a pretty large 4x4 so we should be comfortable enough. I rolled my suitcase out into the kitchen where Ronnie was waiting with his "You ready" I nodded. I knew I was probably going to lose my job for doing this, I'd called in this morning and said I was sick so they would know I wouldn't be there tonight, I had also called Ash and told him what was going on and he was going to cover up for me if I didn't turn up tomorrow or the day after. It was really hot out today so I made sure Ronnie pulled up at a store so I could grab us some water etc. "Did you let Kacie know we were going away?" I asked Ronnie 

"No I didn't tell the band either" I shook my head and turned the radio up when I heard Green Day come on. Three hours had passed and I was getting cramp so we pulled over at a McDonalds so that we could get some lunch and use the loos etc "I'll get us some food, you go pee or whatever" I nodded and went over to the bathrooms.

When I returned I saw Ronnie sat in a booth near the window "I got you a Chicken Nugget meal I wasn't sure what you'd want" 

"Chicken nuggets are fine" I sat in the booth oppsite him and grabbed the box of fries from the center of the table "I think this was actually a pretty good idea you know" Ronnie nodded

"Well I hope Kacie sees what she's done when she goes back to the apartment and see's we're not there, this is exactly why I didn't tell the band because then they won't have a clue either and she will panic"

"How long are you planning on keeping this up for?" I asked

"As long as it takes" I sighed and started on my nuggets. 

We were soon back on the road "It's getting pretty late, we have another 3 hours to go by the looks of it, we're going to have to get a hotel room when we get to San Diego" I shrugged 

"It's okay we need to call Vic and make sure he's actually in San Diego anyway" The drive was pretty much quiet and I had been asleep for most of it, Ronnie shook me awake "Is this hotel okay?" I looked up at the building from the car seat "It will do" I grabbed my bag and suitcase from the back and wheeled it along next to Ronnie "Hey yeah can we get a room just for tonight please" the woman nodded and went onto her computer "We only have one double, will that be okay for you" I shrugged when Ronnie looked towards me "Yeah that will be fine" The lady passed us the key and we headed over to the lift and up to the second floor. The room was very basic which I was fine with we would only be here for one night anyway. I placed my suitcase down on the floor and then checked my phone, Kacie had tried calling me "Look I'm going to call Kacie she called me earlier a few times" he shrugged

"just don't tell her you're with me" I nodded and went out into the corridor to call her 

"Deven, why haven't you been answering my calls, I went to see you in the Diner and Ash said you had called in sick so I came to the apartment and you were gone!" I swallowed

"Oh yeah I've erm gone away for a few days to er San Diago to see Vic" 

"Ugh you're such a good liar Deven, I hope you're having a good time, do you know where Ronnie is? I mean he wasn't at the apartment earlier?" 

"No er I haven't seen him since yesterday I'm sorry" she sighed "What's going on with you two anyway?" I asked 

"Ugh well I went into our room yesterday and he had left a notepad out on the desk, it was some lyrics and well they were about you!" I knew what she was talking about

"Yeah I know, they are from a long time ago Kacie, like 4 years ago" Kacie laughed

"No they aren't, if that's what he told you then he is lying, that notepad was empty because he got it for our honeymoon" I squinted 

"Oh erm are you sure I mean"

"Look Dev I've got to go but have a good time and if you hear from Ronnie tell him to call me" I was about to say okay but she had already put the phone down. I sighed and went back into the hotel room. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah she just wondered why I wasn't at work or at the apartment" I didn't really want to bring up the whole lyrics thing yet "I'm going to take a shower and freshen up if that's cool with you" 

"That's fine I'm just going to sleep, the drive tired me out" I smiled at him

"Goodnight Ronnie" 

"Night Deven" I went into the bathroom and turned on the shower. Part of me was starting to wonder what on earth was going on. I'd heard two different stories so far, one from Ronnie's side and one from Kacie's side and they both sounded highly false. I felt as if something else was going on. It's obvious that Kacie loves him still other wise she wouldn't be asking me if I had seen him and trying to find him. But why would she split with him over some lyrics. I shook the thought out of my head and got back out of the shower and getting into my pyjamas. 

When I walked back out into the main room I saw that Ronnie was already fast asleep. I tied my hair up and slid into the bed next to him and I fell asleep pretty much as soon as my head hit the pillow. 

The next morning Ronnie was up before me "Morning" 

"I've got some bad news" Ronnie announced as he handed me a cup of coffee I took it and he came and sat on the bed with me "What is it?" I asked 

"Pierce The Veil aren't even in the country, they are over in Europe" I could have screamed when he said the word Europe "Well that's no good is it, we may as well just go home" I said as I got out of the bed. "No Deven, we can stay here until they get back" I rolled my eyes at him 

"Ronnie, I've got to go back, I'm going to lose my job, this was a silly idea" I think the reality of what we were doing had hit me, also the fact that I had lied to Kacie about the fact that I was infact in San Diego with Ronnie and not Vic... I pulled some clothes out of my suitcase and got dressed "Deven, one day won't hurt, it's not like you'd make it back in time anyway" Ronnie stated as I sat back down on the bed and pulled out my make up bag. I shrugged "I guess we can stay out here, Kacie knows I'm in San Diego soooo she will cover for me I'm sure" I smiled up at Ronnie but he seemed kind of lost in thought "I'm sorry I didn't mean to bring her up" I was still confused by the two stories I had been told. They were totally different and I still don't think Kacie's side of the story was exactly the full picture. 

Ronnie's POV

I should really just tell Deven the truth about what happened between me and Kacie and why we broke up but I didn't see the point at all. She was in love with Vic and I'd had my chance with Deven and I had blown it. Yes the reason me and Kacie broke up is because I am infact in love with Deven Taylor. The girl that messed me around for years. Vic wasn't really in Europe, he was in San Diego still but I just wanted to spend some time alone with Deven for a while, see if my feeling for her really were true. I didn't want to break up with Kacie so soon, I was torn up when she found my lyric notepad and diary. She had gotten me the notepad before our honeymood so I could write there but I had only gone and started to write my feelings for Deven down and some pretty harsh and truthful lyrics that pretty much ripped Kacie's heart out right there and then. She had found the notepad which I had left out on her desk after I had sang that song to Deven and whilst she was at work we had a huge argument about it all and she had left. "It's no problem Deven, Kacie is the last thing on my mind right now" I smiled at her reassuringly "So what do you want to do today?" she thought for a second "Let's go downstairs there are loads of leaflets by the reception area, we could see what there is" I smiled at her and pulled my shoes on. 

Once we were downstairs she seemed to find something straight away "Ahh seaworld would be fun, how about it?" I smiled at her excitement 

"Sure" it was extremely hot out again today and my tight Black skinny jeans were probably the wrong choice. Deven was wearing a pair of shorts which seemed to show off a few tattoos I hadn't seen before not that I had ever seen her naked, even when we were in a relationship we had never gotten round to sex or anything like that she also wore an Iron Maiden tee which had been cut into a v neck and she had taken the sleeves off. I pulled my shades out of the glove box of the car and placed them on as Deven set up the sat nav for the address we wanted to be at....
