We were finally almost in Las Vegas and talking about my upcoming Birthday in the car "So what do you want to do?" Vic asked me as I sipped on the bottle of Coke I had bought from the gas station we stopped at. I shrugged "I don't really want to do anything" Vic shook his head at me
"Yes we are doing something, you've got two weeks to decide what you want to do" I rolled my eyes and turned the radio up as Katy Perry played "You serious? You're turning this up?"
"It's catchy ok" I nudged him lightly with my elbow. I caught site of the Welcome to the fabulous Las Vegas sign and nearly squeeled with excitement. Vic shook his head at me but I knew he was secretley happy to be here. We pulled up at the apartment complex in which Ronnie still lived and I got out of the car relieved to finally be able to stretch my legs. Vic grabbed our bags and I helped him carry them over to the building and up the stairs to my old apartment. I knocked on the door and Ronnie answered "Ronnie!" I cheered hugging him tightly
"Hey guys, come in" I walked into the apartment and noticed it had changed a considerable amount to when it was legally mine. "Woah why are the walls Black!" I announced as I scanned my eyes across the room "It was too bright in here with the White and Reds" I shook my head at the appauling choice of colours. "So what made you want to come out here?" Ronnie asked as we all sat down on the leather couch in the sitting room "We just fancied a weekend away and where better than coming back to Vegas" Ronnie looked super confused for a moment
"Is everything ok Ronnie?" he shook his head
"You're acting like nothing happened at warped tour?" I swallowed
"I want to forget about it, I'm fine now I swear" Vic grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze and I turned to him "Plus we er have something to announce" I looked up at Vic who nodded "We're getting married" I smiled and Ronnie lifted his head
"Really? Woah congratulations both of you" Ronnie seemed taken aback a little but I shrugged it off and we continued to catch up.
"So who else are you planning to see whilst your out here?" Ronnie asked
"Well I'd like to go over to the Diner this afternoon to see Ash and Carl" Ronnie smiled
"I think they'd be happy to see you over there, business isn't going to well for them I don't think, not since they... You know lost two of their best waitresses" I looked at Ronnie, I could tell he was hiding the pain which he still felt on losing Kacie. I bit my lip "How about we go over there now I mean it's lunch time and me and Vic haven't really eaten today" Ronnie nodded
"Sure let's head over there"
We walked over there seeing as I still had a little bit of cramp from sitting in the same position in Vic's car for hours. When we arrived the first person I noticed was Max sat at the bar and I smiled happy to see a familiur face "Damn, of course he'd be here it's Saturday" Ronnie announced and I looked back at him as he rolled his eyes. Obviously he wasn't over the whole part where his ex best friend got his wife pregnant. I went over and sat next to him and nudged him averting his eyes away from the newspaper in front of him, he looked and a smile appeared on his face "Deven, what the hell are you doing here? I thought you went back to England?"
"No I decided to stay" Max hugged me and then looked to Vic and Ronnie who had just sat down in two of the spare seats at the bar Max greeted them both and then I saw Ash walk out from in front of the grill and he froze when he saw me "Deven? What the hell girl!" I grinned at him "What can I get the three of you?" We ordered food and drinks and I caught up with Ash and Max. Turns out Carl wasn't in today as he was trying to get some money off of the bank so he could keep the diner running. I felt guilty for leaving, but I still couldn't see how the business was failing because of me and Kacie leaving. I turned to look around the diner when I spotted the Red hair of a girl, she had on the wairess outfit I used to wear and she was taking down an order for a couple at the other side of the room. Was that Kacie? I thought to myself. No. What am I saying she's dead. I turned back around to Ronnie "When was the last time you came to the diner?" he shook his head
"I haven't actually been back here at all, it reminds me too much of Kacie" Max cleared his throat and I turned to him "I'm just going to go to the loo" he stated nervously and I was suddenly confused by his change in mood. I turned back to face Ronnie to see him staring in disbelief at who I could only describe as being Kacie stood around the other side of the bar pouring glasses of coca cola. I gasped and she looked up at us suddenly paling. "K-Kacie?" I asked and she smiled at us all
"Erm Hi guys long time no see" she looked like she was going to be sick and I watched as Ronnie got up leaving me and Vic both completely speechless and Kacie went back to serving customers. I turned to Vic "I'm dreaming right? That's not Kacie is it? She's dead, we saw her lifeless body in that hospital bed and we went to her fucking funeral?" Vic grabbed my hand and squeezed it
"I don't think this is a dream Deven" he looked back over at Kacie and then I realised that Ronnie had gone into the bathrooms with Max and they were in their alone."Go see what they are doing in the toilet? I need to speak to Ash" I got up and went around to the bar where Ash was stood cooking the food we had just ordered "Ash" he turned to me "What the hell is going on?" he smiled at me
"Kacie's alive, she never passed away I don't know what the hell happened ok, I'm just as confused as you are and she only started working here again last week, she just turned up and said she needed a job to help support her family as long as she could be known by a different name" I was so confused. I don't know if I was relieved that she was alive or whether I was angry. Did she pay the nurse to tell us she was dead, did she pay the funeral directors? What the fuck was going on. I shook my head furiously and went over to the bathrooms before the tears in my eyes spilled over. I went into the mens and saw Ronnie stood with his hands tightly clenched on each side of a wash basin staring into the mirror at me, Vic was stood awkwardly next to him leant on the toilet stalls and Max was sat on the seat of one of the toilets "Max new, Max fucking new Kacie was alive and he has been covering up for her this whole fucking time!" Ronnie shouted obviously angered. "Go on Max tell Deven" he stated moving away from the wash basin and standing next to me by the door. "Look, I was doing it to protect her ok? She wanted to be with me, ok? she just didn't want to hurt you guys" I rolled my eyes as a tear ran down my cheek
"Hurt us? Don't you think her 'death' hurt us all enough?" Max sighed
"We have a child, we're content ok. She just wanted to forget about you guys and move on with her life" I bit the inside of my lip
"Then why on earth would she come back to the Diner, why didn't you both just move away from Nevada?!" I asked him
"Because none of you ever came here anymore, you and Vic were in San Diego and Ronnie never comes here anyway" Max stood up "I'm sure you can come over to our place later and we will all work this out together, Kacie get's off in an hour, you can come back with me" I looked up at the ceiling and then looked to Ronnie who looked as though he was about to hit something. I turned to Vic and hugged him "I want to go back to San Diego" I sniffled and I felt Vic tighten his grip on me "I'm sorry my life is so fucked up" I stated and he stroked my hair
"This isn't your fault Deven"
