Sorry to tell you this, but we'll have to temporarily go away from the completely happy chapters.

This one was intense for me to write.

Chapter 8: Inside the Dying House

~Thea's POV~

I do beat Loki twenty-five times without fainting once. It takes me almost three hours, Loki getting harder and harder on me as I go, but I do it.

Ha. So there.

For the rest of the afternoon, Loki prepares for the expedition to Neidra's mansion, which has been moved today so Loki can go to Ardhigiza within the next couple days. I head to my room for a few hours.

I sit down at the marble table in front of the balcony and take out a piece of parchment from the drawer attached to the wall. I have to dig around for a few minutes before I find a pen and it takes a few more minutes to re-acquaint myself with Asgardian writing utensils.

Finally, after I stain three colors of ink on my hand, I begin to write.

Videl,

I talked to Loki last night. He said he's more than willing to talk to the elders (read: frighten) soon to get back your crown. He says he totally agrees that you deserve it now. Let's be real, the elders know it too.

Loki mentioned that a condition was that the Velah help fight against Neidra. I told him you were already fully planning on it. Loki's become paranoid about wars. He's set on the fact that we're going to have a full-out Lord of the Rings worthy battle with Neidra before this is all done.

He also asked me if I've seen the elders recently. I told him the only annoying dick I tolerate seeing is you. Actually, I just said no because I'm fairly certain Loki is going to wash my mouth with soap at some point in the foreseeable future. Anyway, I don't think he trusts the elders. I don't blame him, but there's something I think he's worried about. I didn't tell him about the part where the elders considered going to Neidra and going against Loki- he might not want to help you then. But if I were you, I'd keep an eagle eye on them. Or owl eye.

I just hope Wairua shows up soon so I can get this to you. Say hi to everyone for me.

Thea

Using the hot wax from the candle next to me, I seal the letter. I burn myself on the hot, sticky mess and wince.

While I rub off the wax from my fingers, I think about the irony that the one power I could have over Neidra, it can't touch her. Fire won't burn her skin. I could throw her in a wildfire, her and Caomh, and they'd just walk out like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

I let the flame trickle out from my finger and look at the crackling spark. There has to be some way to use my power against Neidra. I don't have fangs like Videl, and even though I'm good with my dagger and sword (Loki had assured that), I can't fully rely on something so obvious, something so ordinary Neidra would see it coming for miles. There has to be something. A weakness. Something I can weasel out from her to catch her off-guard whenever I see her next. Unless Loki gets to her first.

The slight problem is that Loki wants to tear off Neidra's head just as much as I do. It's been a pretty silent conversation between the two of us about it, but I can guarantee Loki isn't going to stand by and wait for me to get there before he kills Neidra.

It's not that I blame him. Neidra took his mother, took my mother, influenced him to kill his father (not that Odin didn't deserve it), then took over his mind and had him kill Myrinea, Archer, and Linthria and then nearly had him kill me. But Neidra's taken a lot from me too. And I won't stop until she's dead.
