I did another chapter! YAAY!

I'm trying to finish Part Four by Friday, which means I only have on chapter left. Huzzah!
Today's video is Q&A. I'm sorry I was talking sort of fast. I was on a time limit. Whenever I post next, I'll be talking about the changes from the Avengers series to the Emerald Chronicles series. :)

Chapter 40: Work Its Wicked Work

Thea tilts between consciousness and unconsciousness as the sun slowly comes up. Loki carries her from the gorge to Fletohein, simultaneously supporting a limping Jack.

The soldiers, a combined number of Loki's, Saldra's, Enekpe's, and Eala's forces plus the Velah, have succeeded in pushing back Neidra's men. However, the base of Fletohein is filled with wounded men and women, some groaning and clutching bleeding limbs and some staring into nothing with pained eyes.

Neither Saldra nor Eala had been grievously injured- although there is a mild gash on Saldra's arm- and so tend to as many injured soldiers as possible. Loki sets Thea underneath a tree overlooking the calm river and she stirs. When her eyes open, she begins coughing raucously.

Before Loki can even open his mouth, Eala is at his side. With practiced confidence, she conjures a small brown and then tilts it on Thea's dry, burnt lips. Slowly, Thea begins to stop coughing, and her wheezes slow to only hurried, anxious breathing.

While Eala tends to Thea, Loki begins working on Jack. The gash in his wing isn't terribly deep, and the blood has stopped flowing. But Loki has a difficult time keeping the giant wing stationary while trying to wrap the red-soaked, sticky feathers. Jack attempts to stay still, but he is obviously in pain- the feathers are more sensitive to his nervous system than the tips of fingers or toes.

"Sorry," mutters Jack as his wing flaps subconsciously, slapping Loki in the face. "I'm trying."

"Don't apologize to me," says Loki. He drips some clear liquid on the damaged feathers, watching as some of the blood is siphoned away. "This arrow is in you right now because you saved my life."

"Oh good," says Jack. "So are you not going to kill Thea and me? I might add that we did it successfully this time."

Loki rolls his eyes and, once the blood clots, turns to the arrow. It's deep in the feathers. "Once the two of you are sufficiently recovered, I'll consider letting you live. After we've had a very long discussion on your stupidity."

"But we saved... a lot of people," Thea croaks.

"She lives," says Loki, though his worried tone belies his casual words. "Yes, you did. But you also put your life at risk. You almost got burned alive."

"That... it didn't have anything to do with sneaking out." Thea wipes her face at least partially clean of the soot. "I was saving... Jack's life. After he saved... your life."

"Yeah," says Jack. "She brings up an excellent- YOWCH, LOKI!"

Loki inspects the arrow he has just pulled from Jack's dark brown feathers. "Consider yourself lucky that the point did not sever through the other end. That would take much more time to heal."

"So when will it heal?"

"I'm not a Volare expert," says Loki, "but I'd say-"

"About a week," says Eala. Loki glances up at her, and she smiles, although her blue eyes are mischievous. "The feathers are sensitive, but heal quickly. I'm sure you will be flying soon enough."
