*Jeff*
I don't remember much of how I got to the hospital, because as soon as I knew anything, I was put under anesthetic. Next thing I remember, I woke up to a nurse standing over me. The doctor had told me that there was a greater chance that I could hurt myself more than if I had relented earlier. Hey, I wasn't getting surgery until I knew I needed it. And tonight, I knew I needed it.
"Jeff?"
I turned my head to see Morgan and Matt walk in. I sat up in bed a little.
"Hey," I said as Morgan and Matt came over to her bedside.
"Are you feeling alright?" Matt asked.
"Well," I said. "Not really?"
"What's wrong?" Morgan asked me softly.
"I'm just..." I don't know what happened next, I just started to shut down, and i knew that was going to scare the shit out of Morgan, which wasn't my intention.
"Jeff..." Morgan said with a worried expression on her face.
"Bro, are you alright?" Matt asked.
"No..."
"What's wrong?" Morgan asked, running her fingers over my knuckles softly.
I didn't say anything else, because by that point, I had completely shut down. Morgan noticed and started running her fingers through my hair softly.
"Jeff," Morgan whispered softly. "Talk to me. Are you alright?"
"..." I said nothing. And honestly, it just felt like I was dying at this point.
"Jeff," Morgan begged. "Please?"
I finally turned over to her, and Morgan didn't see my eyes glaze over a little, because she asked me, "What's wrong? You got to tell me babe."
I couldn't speak the words that I had been mulling over since the doctor told me the news. I could only mouth them. Morgan didn't seem fazed by it, and i could only assume that was because she didn't understand what I was trying to tell her. Morgan hugged me not saying a word and I returned the hug, the numbness spreading over me.
"Bro," Matt said looking at me. "Seriously, we need to know if you're alright, but we wont know until you tell us." When I found my voice, before I could say anything, Reby came in. "I just found out what happened. Your dad is watching Maxel," she said before turning to me. "What's going on here?"
"Jeffs in shock," Matt said, his eyes showing pure concern for me. "I wish he would though. That way we'd know whats wrong."
"Matt, babe," Reby said putting a hand on Matt's shoulder. "I've seen shock before. You've just got to give it time." He nodded in understanding. Reby grabbed a chair and plopped into it. "What did the doctor say?"
"Well, he told us that Jeff had the surgery," Matt explained, glancing from Reby, to me, and back to Reby. "Then after he woke up they told him what was going on and that he went into shock." Reby sighed before nodding and getting up.
"The doctor might know a little bit more," Reby said. I felt a small pressure on my neck and I knew that Reby had just kissed me on the neck. "Why don't we go talk to him?"
I didn't know what happened next, I just let my thoughts wander darker until I heard Morgan say, "Baby...I just need to know, do you think your career is over?"
I knew my answer was yes, but I just couldn't say a word. I couldn't even say the word 'yes.'
"Jeff," Morgan said, hugging on me. "Please, answer me."
