-Jesy POV-

"I gotta get going." I said standing in front of Jack. "Having dinner with mom"

"Hey come here for a second." Jack was sitting at the edge of his bed, he pulled me close between his legs. His hands gripped my thighs gently, I felt a shiver.

"You okay?" I ran my fingers through his blonde hair.

"I love you alright?" Jack squeezed the back of my thighs. "I'm afraid to lose you too."

I sighed. "I'm afraid too Jack. But I love you so much...that counts as something."

"It counts as everything." Jack smiled. "See you at school, tomorrow."

I nodded and kissed Jack softly. Then I slid on my jacket and grabbed my phone. I walked out and shut the door. I heard Jack sigh and lean back on the bed - guess he needed time to think too.

As I walked downstairs, Mrs J called out for me. "Jesy, honey!"

I walked into the kitchen to find her fabulously drinking tea - if that was a thing - while reading a magazine.

"Oh, I was just leaving now Mrs Johnson." I smiled politely.

"I just wanted to talk to you about something." She said. "If that's okay with you."

I nodded and leaned against the kitchen counter. She surveyed me briefly - making me squirm a little, she took a sip of tea then spoke up.

"I know you and Jack have been close ever since Gilinsky was in hospital." Mrs J said in a steady tone.

"We're just close friends." I smiled. "That's all."

Lying to myself too.

"But I don't want my little boy to get hurt, if you're with Gilinsky I don't think you need or should be seeing Jack."

I frowned. "We're just friends Mrs J. I don't get what you mean."

"Thats funny." She raised her brow. "Are friends always sexually active with each other?"

I almost chocked. "Oh my god - "

"If you're playing with Jacks feelings then you should leave him." She said sternly. "I mean it Jesy."

"Mrs J - I don't mean to be rude but I don't think my relationship with Jack is anybody else's business." I said quietly looking down.

"I'm his mother." She said sternly. "And I will look out for him from girls like you!"

"What - " I started.

"Mom what the hell are you doing?" Jack walked in looking horrified. "Why would you say these things to Jesy?"

"I was okay with this friendship until you two were sexually involved! I've found condom wrappers - "

"Mom that's none of your business." Jack raised his voice.

I couldn't speak, I was shocked at how Mrs Johnson suddenly didn't like me with Jack anymore. I was actually hurt because she was like a second mom to me.

"I think it is if Jesy ends up pregnant and if she hurts you!"

I held my hands up. "I think I'm just gonna head home."

"Jesy wait." Jack tried but I walked out already, glad to be leaving the awkward scene behind me.

-

"Mom! I'm home." I yelled and locked the front door.

"Living room." I heard her shout back.

When I walked in, there were a few Chinese takeout boxes on the coffee table. This was probably the first dinner we're having together even if its just take out.

"I ordered extra for you." Mom smiled and lowered the TV.

"Thanks mom." I sighed dramatically and plopped on the couch grabbing the first box I could reach.

"Oh rough day?"

"Way too rough."

"What happened?"

I was taken back completely, she would never ask me how my day was or even show that she cared. I was usually the asker around here. But now I needed someone, I needed a mom.

I took a deep breath and then I told her everything. From the start right until this evenings encounter with Mrs J - I also had to reassure that Jack and I were being responsible.

Mom exhaled. "Wow."

I laughed. "I know. I had a lot going on. You were never here so - '

"I'm trying to start over Jesy." My mom took my hand. I wasn't even accustomed to that either. "I would love if you give me a second chance."

I nodded. "Of course mom."

She smiled. "So I'll give you advice. You should follow your heart baby, I know it seems like dumb advice but you have to. If you don't like Gilinsky anymore - don't pretend to. If he loves you, he'll respect your choice."

"Mom Jacks his best friend."

"You're only human. You can't help who you fall in love with and trust me - its not a crime."

I nodded. "You're right. But I just don't know if I want to be a betrayer right now or hurt Gilinsky after the whole accident."

"You know it sounds to me like you and Jack are sacrificing both your happiness for Gilinsky."

I shrugged. "Sometimes you have to. When you care about someone."

-Jack POV-

I got ready the next morning for school when I got a text from Gilinsky saying he didn't need a ride anymore. I know Jack can't drive for a while so he must be going with Jesy.

It was no big deal but I mean I was allowed to be jealous. Even though I shouldnt be because she's not my girlfriend. And seeing then together would still crush my spirit.

So I got ready and got into my car, driving to school. Hopefully I'd miss Gilinsky and Jesy if I get there in a few minutes. I got to school and found people pointing and huddling in groups.

I parked and spotted the familiar Chevy truck pull up a few spaces from me. It was Jesy and Gilinsky that everyone was staring at. My fingers tightened around the wheel watched them get out and walk to the doors, hand in hand. Like the It Couple they are to everyone.

Jesy had a smile on her face, Gilinsky looked content. Maybe I was just way in over my head. Maybe I was just the one getting in the way of what they had before the accident. Now I was messing it all up by falling for Jesy.

Everyone was smiling and waving at the two. A few people came over to hug them to tell Gilinsky how they missed him. He kept his arm over Jesy the whole time - looking at her with love. While she seemed far away.

"Get it together." I rested my head on the steering wheel.

I got out aftering calming down and walked in, nobody looked at me. Nobody even asked how I feel with my best friend being back. Everything was about Gilinsky and Jesy.

It used to be Jesy and Johnson.

I shoved my hands in my pocket and walked inside. I noticed Audrina who waved at me - I waved back to be polite. Then I walked down the hallway - Jesy and Gilinsky were against her locker.

I kept my hands in my pocket and walked passed them without even looking at them once. Gilinsky was too busy talking to the flock of admirers while Jesy looked my way but I looked straight ahead.

Jesy promised to study with me tonight so maybe she could keep that.
