"Tell me that's a joke and I'll still laugh."
"Kenny, shut up. Everyone with a brain and their mother knows that Superman is better than Batman." Darrin says slowly, like he was speaking to a child.
"Well then that explains why Kenny doesn't know." Melanie jokes with a snort, earning herself a high five from Darrin.
"C'mon Skylar, back me up." Kenny begs, making prayer hands. I smile at the use of my actual name.
"Cheater! You're just buttering her up by using the Skylar card. C'mon Skye, you know I'm right. It's no question that Superman's better." Darrin reasons. I scoff and flip my hair over my shoulder in a snobby manner.
"I dunno Darrin. Kenny's claim is starting to sound better to me." I tease. Can you blame me? They rarely ever call me Skylar.
"Okay, we're settling this for real now. All those in favor of Superman beating Batman, say I." Melanie orders.
"I." She and Darrin say in sync. They give me glares and if they weren't my best friends, I would've assumed they were serious.
"All those in favor of Batman beating Superman, say I." Kenny says victoriously.
"I-and you didn't vote for either side." Kenny stops awkwardly, pouting.
"Personally, I'm more of a Thor person." I admit with a shrug. Hey, Batman isn't even a superhero and Superman is just weird. Clark Kent, you are not fooling anyone. Thor is a literal god so yeah.
"Laaaame." Darrin says, leaning down, causing his voice to become progressively higher.
"Oh guys, before I forget, my mom said we can go bowling this Friday after school. You in?" Melanie asks, grabbing her backpack and getting ready to leave.
"Hell yeah." Kenny says, fist bumping the air like he always does when he's excited.
"Sure. I'm not busy. If you guys need a ride, just meet me by my car after school." Darrin says.
"I'm down." I say, grabbing my backpack too.
"Have fun at practice you guys. See ya later Skye." Melanie waves.
"It's Skylar!" I correct whiningly.

I set my backpack on the lunch table and hastily pulled out my lab notebook. Grabbing a pen, I quickly jotted down my notes that I totally forgot to do the night before. Kenny waving his hand in front of me stopped me.
"What's up? I don't really have time to talk right now. I forgot to finish my pre-lab." I say rapidly, clicking my pen in impatience.
"So you and that skater boy. You're a thing?" he asks carefully, biting into his burger. I can tell he's trying not to give away the fact that it's bothering him.
"Uh, not technically but uh, I'm getting a smoothie with him later so I'll just see where it takes me." I say, getting back to my lab in an attempt to avoid my problems.
"Skylar." He says nervously, causing me to shakily lift my head up and smile guiltily. His eyes meet mine and we have one of our silent conversation.
'I like you and you know that.'
'I know and I'm sorry Kenny, but I just see you as a friend.'
'...'
'But I'll always be there for you and I hope this doesn't ruin things between us.'
